Dry Hot Summers Contends at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival

After its screening at the 12th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in 2015, director Sherif El Bendary's short film Dry Hot Summers will land its European premiere within the Official Competition of the 38th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France (5-13 February), marking the only Egyptian film in competition.

Hot Dry Summers portrays two lonely people at opposite chapters of their lives who accidentally meet on a busy summer day in a Cairo taxi into a journey of self-discovery that reconnects them to life.

Dry Hot Summers stars Mohamed Farid, Nahed Elsebaie, Donia Maher and Mohamed Abdelazeem. The film is a co-production between Hossam Elwan, Safie Eldin Mahmoud and Claudia Jubeh alongside the film's director El Bendary. The film cast includes editor Emad Maher, scriptwriter Nura Elsheikh and DOP Victor Credi.

Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival is one of the most important festivals concerned with short films and attracts more than 100 thousand visitors each year. 81 short films from all over the world are competing at the festival's 38th edition out of 5927 films which will be screened at the different sections of the festival.

In 2014, El Bendary's film project, Dry Hot Summers, was awarded the Robert Bosch Stiftung prize for Best Short Fiction Film within the Berlinale Talents during the activities of Berlin International Film Festival.

El Bendary's filmography includes his first short fiction, Sabah El Fol (Rise and Shine), which was officially selected in more than 75 film festivals in 33 countries, followed by his short film At Day's End (2008) which was inspired by salient writer Ibrahim Aslan's novella. Sherif directed Curfew, a chapter that was part of the collective feature 18 Days, the film which was an official selection at Cannes Film Festival 2011. Sherif's latest film is the documentary Fil Tarik Le West El Balad and he is recently selected as a jury member at the Shorts and Animations Competition within the Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts 2013. Most recently, El Bendary is working on the editing phase of his debut feature film Ali, the Goat and Ibrahim.
