MAD Solutions Acquires Arab World Distribution Rights for the Moroccan Film My Uncle by Nassim Abassi

MAD Solutions has revealed its acquisition of the distribution rights for the Moroccan film My Uncle (Mon Oncle) by Nassim Abassi in the Arab World. Taking part in the 16th Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM) (December 2-10, 2016), the film is screening Out of Competition within a tribute programme honoring the film's star, Abderrahim Tounsi (aka Abderraouf ), one of Morocco's great comedians.

The main character of the film My Uncle is inspired by the celebrated Chaplin-style character, created by actor Abderrahim Tounsi who was hugely popular in the 1970s and the early 1980s, but then his popularity started to fade away. He is the uncle of a young struggling Moroccan actress who strives to achieve her dream of becoming a celebrated actress. His visit to his niece reveals many of the darker sides of the Moroccan film industry.

My Uncle is written and directed by Nassim Abassi, who also produces it through MOONDUST PRODUCTIONS. The film received a grant from the Centre Cinématographique Marocain (CCM) and will be distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

My Uncle features a group of stars from Morocco, namely: Alia Erkab, Abderrahim Tounsi (Abderraouf), Manal Essaddiki, Souad Alaoui, Ibtissam Laaroussi, Majid Lakroun, Mohammed Khiari, Nourredine Bikr, Brahim Khay, and Hajar Chargui.

The 16th Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM) also screens the film Majid (2010), the feature debut of director Nassim Abassi, which is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

Majid, a 10-year-old orphan who lives in Mohammedia, cannot remember the faces of his parents who died in a fire. His older brother Driss, who takes care of him while dreaming to go to Norway, tells him that former neighbors could have a picture of their parents, but they live in Casablanca. With his friend Larbi, Majid decides to do everything possible to find this picture.

Majid features the two child stars Brahim Al Bakali, and Lotfi Sabir, together with Wassime Zidi, Abdellah Lamrani, Abderrahim Tounsi, Aziz Hattab, and others.

Director Nassim Abassi studied Filmmaking at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in the UK. He has produced and directed several short films both in the UK and in Morocco, which were well received in the film festival circuit, across the UK and beyond. His first feature film as a screenwriter and director was Majid, which enjoyed public and critical acclaim in Morocco and took part in more than 30 world film festivals and won over 10 international awards since its release.

The Marrakech International Film Festival was created in 2001 with the aim of renewing the dialogue between talents and intellects, encouraging diversity and building bridges between different cultures and countries through screening a wide-range of films by great actors, producers, and filmmakers from all over the world.
