Mohamed Hefzy's production house Film Clinic will be present at Abu Dhabi Film Festival through two of its new productions namely; Villa 69 and Rags and Tatters. The seventh installment of the festival will run from October 24th to November 2nd, 2013.
On his double entry to the festival, Mohamed Hefzy, Producer and Founder of Film Clinic, commented, "Abu Dhabi Film Festival is considered one of the most important stations in any filmmaker's career that opens the door to regionally and internationally launch their works. As for us in Film Clinic, this step adds to the challenge that we've taken, which is to take commercial Arabic productions to the international level where they can screen in international film theaters."
The new feature Villa 69 will have its world premiere within the framework of New Horizons Competition in Abu Dhabi Film Festival on October 29th, and October 31st, 2013. Co-produced by Film Clinic and Director Wael Omar's recently launched The 7th Art Production company, the film is Ayten Ameen's directorial debut. Written by Mohamed Al Hag, Villa 69 stars Khaled Abol Naga, Lebleba and Arwa Gouda.
The film is about a man living in isolation in his house where characters from his past begin to invade his loneliness. His life witnesses drastic changes following the encounter with his sister and nephew, Saif, which will lead to gradual and radical changes in his dogmatic vision of life.
Ahmed Abdallah's Rags and Tatters will also screen within the framework of the Narrative Features Competition at Abu Dhabi Film Festival on October 26th, and October 27th, 2013. The film unfolds a new experience in Egyptian cinema as the story builds up with minimal dialogue between the characters based on visual narration within a balanced equation of documentation and narration. The film tells the story of a prison inmate who escapes from jail following the incidents that took place on January 28th, 2011, when police forces were withdrawn from the streets and chaos prevailed. The film stars Asser Yassin who plays the leading role of the fugitive inmate who moves in a number of poor alienated Egyptian districts.
Shot on location in Mansheyet Nasser and Old Cairo, Rags and Tatters also stars Amr Abed, Mohamed Mamdouh, Seif Al Aswani, Yara Gobran and Latifa Fahmi.
Rags and Tatters is produced by Mohamed Hefzy's Film Clinic in co-production with Mashrou', Ahmed Abdallah's new production house formed with Asser Yassin, and Producer and Writer Amr Shama, Scriptwriter of After the Battle film.
The film will also screen at BFI London Film Festival on October 19th and October 20th, 2013 in Odeon Cinema, West End, London. The film had previously participated in Toronto International Film Festival in Canada where it had its world premiere.
