Theeb Receives a Certificate of Appreciation at Prospects of Arab Cinema
Following its Egyptian/African premiere and the audiences' urging demands for a third screening, Naji Abu Nowar's Theeb received a Certificate of Appreciation within Prospects of Arab Cinema section, organized by Egyptian Filmmakers Syndicate, at the 36th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF).
Theeb witnessed an unprecedented turnout on its screenings at CIFF that a huge number of the flocking attendees could not enter the Small Hall, Cairo Opera House to see the film. The hall was a full house and jam-packed with anticipating audiences that an exceptional third screening was held on the next day in response to the audiences' supporting demands.
Recently, Theeb received its MENA premiere within New Horizons Competition at Abu Dhabi Film Festival (ADFF), where it won two awards; namely, the New Horizons Best Film from the Arab World and the FIPRESCI Award for Best Narrative Film. On the margins of ADFF, Jordanian filmmaker Naji Abu Nowar was named Variety Arab Filmmaker of the Year by Variety Magazine. Abu Nowar accepted the award in a star-studded gala reception at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi.
Set in the Arabian Desert of 1916, the film follows Theeb, a young Bedouin boy and his elder brother Hussein, as they leave the safety of their tribe to venture on a treacherous journey at the dawn of the Great Arab Revolt. If Theeb is to survive, he must quickly learn about adulthood, trust and betrayal.
The film is produced by Bayt Al Shawareb, which was founded by Jordanian Writer and Producer Bassel Ghandour, in association with Rupert Lloyd's Noor Pictures and in co-production with Nasser Kalaji and Laith Majali's Immortal Entertainment. Nadine Toukan is the Executive Producer. The film will be distributed across the Arab world by MAD Solutions, which will also handle Theeb's marketing across the region.
