The European Film Screenings of 2015 Comes to a Close
After a successful 2nd edition, the European Film Screenings (EFS) program has come to a close on Saturday, 31 October 2015. The closing day featured a screening of the Danish first superhero film "Antboy" by director Ask Hassel balch at Novo Cinema in Ibn Battout Mall, Dubai, featured the final screenings of the Danish first superhero film "Antboy" by director Ask Hasselbalch and the German Box Office hit "Honig Im Kopf" (Head full of Honey) by Til Schweiger, preceded by the screening of the short film of Nawaf Al Janahi's Mirros of Silence.
Right after the screenings, the French film La Famille Bélier by Eric Lartigau was announced winner of audience award between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. After the announcement, the youngest audience member has been appointed to extract randomly the winning voting ticket, among the ones that have been compiled and collected throughout the whole event in both locations. The principal award has been: a one year subscription to The National, one of the media partners of the event, and a couple of standard tickets to watch a movie of choice at any of Novo Cinemas' venues across the UAE. Other film tickets, courtesy of Novo Cinema, main supporter of the event, were distributed through a supplementary draw.
With the presence of sponsors and a hefty number of diverse attendees, the ceremony was attended by Alessandra Priante, Founder and Artistic Director of the European Film Screenings, H.E. Nicole Bintner, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, main host of this year's edition, Filip Ranebo, Director of Marketing and Sales of Novo Cinemas UAE and several officials from other European countries.
Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Community Development in the UAE, the EFS this year is hosted by the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg together with the Embassy of the EU Delegation to the UAE and is supported by Novo Cinemas in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The event, which opened this year with the Oscar nominee animation Song of the Sea to a full-house in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, has featured a rich ensemble of 18 European films curated carefully by Alessandra Priante, Founder and Artistic Director of the event, together with the participating European Embassies in the UAE.
In addition, the program boasted a roster of impressive Emirati short films selected by the Emirati Cinema Campaign which screened before the evening screening of the European films as a tribute to the UAE film industry by showcasing the talents of UAE film directors.
Screenings were hosted by Novo Cinemas through 21-30 October 2015 in its Abu Dhabi- based venue at WTC Mall and starting 22 to 31 October at Novo Cinemas in Dubai's Ibn Battuta Mall.
