Egyptian Film Critic Samir Farid, Festival President of Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), held a press conference on Wednesday, September 24th, 2014, at Al-Hanager Art Centre,
Cairo Opera House, to unroll the official poster of 36th edition (November 9-18, 2014).

During the conference, Farid announced that the festival has selected Fatih Akin's The Cut
to be the opening film of this year's edition. He further declared that the festival will honor Egyptian legendary actress Nadia Loutfy and worldly-renowned Moroccan Film Critic
Noureddine Sail, granting both preeminent figures the Naguib Mahfouz Lifetime Achievement
Award (The Memorial Golden Pyramid).

The opening film, The Cut is directed by Fatih Akin, who is born in Hamburg, Germany, to Turkish immigrant parents. Co-written by Mardik Martin, The Cut stars Tahar Rahim, Sevan Stephan and Shubham Saraf. The film takes place in the early 20th century during WWI, tracing the political turmoil which results in the antagonization of minorities in the Ottoman Empire by stigmatizing them as hostile enemies.

Farid also revealed the official poster of the 36th edition of the festival. Created by artist and graphic designer Karim Adam, the poster boasts a black and white still from My Father atop of the Tree (Abi Fawk Al Shagara) featuring legendary actress Nadia Loutfy.


The Naguib Mahfouz Life Achievement Award (The Memorial Golden Pyramid) is designed by
Eman El Banna, who studied at the Jewelry Technology Center.

A talented Egyptian designer has joined several design workshops across Egypt, Germany and Austria to further polish and nurture her talents.
