Moroccan short film WHAT ELSE GROWS ON THE PALM OF YOUR HAND wins International Women's Film Festival in Salé’s Audience Award
After claiming the Best Director Award at the Marrakech Short Film Festival, Dhiaa Biya’s short film just added an Audience Award to its trophy shelf from the 17th International Women's Film Festival in Salé, which ran from September 23rd to the 28th.

Directed by Dhiaa Biya and produced by Kenza Alioua, this featurette follows the routines of two women as their repeated gestures and similarities fuse over time. Their hands intersect through their shared memory, telling a story one movement at a time.

Speaking on the film, Biya notes, “I find repetition to be very comforting. I am constantly looking for the smallest gestures that get repeated enough to be familiar to the eye and mind. I believe that if one looks long enough, those little acts get more interesting, more complex, and therefore more valuable on many levels.”

The International Women's Film Festival in Salé celebrates films created by and about women, showcasing their contributions to cinema across an array of genres; including feature films, short films, and documentaries.

Dhiaa Biya is a Moroccan photographer and filmmaker based in Brussels. She holds a bachelor's degree in image techniques from the Higher Institute of Audiovisual and Film Professions in Rabat and pursued her master's in filmmaking from Luca School of Arts.

Inspired by the beauty of human interactions and the normality of everyday life, Dhiaa crafts works that delve into these themes through precise lensing and careful composition. Her creations rely on visual materials, poetry, and keen observation.

WHAT ELSE GROWS ON THE PALM OF YOUR HAND is being distributed across the Arab region by MAD Distribution, while MAD World is handling its worldwide sales.
