Marwan Hamed'sThe Blue Elephant Reaps 30 million EGP
Wowing the audience upon its release in Egyptian theatres, The Blue Elephant by Marwan Hamed raked in 30 million EGP, beating all the cinema hits screened during Eid El-Fitr season, according to an announcement revealed by producer Mohamed Hassan Ramzy, President of the Egyptian Chamber of Cinema Industry.
The new blockbuster, the Blue Elephant, in continuation of its theatrical success, has alsorolled out in the GCC states in the UAE; across Abu Dhabi Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. The film received 8.6 ratings on IMDB by 13,000 users, making it the highest rates to be received by an Arabic film.
The film follows Yehia who returns to work in Al Abasyia Psychiatric Hospital, after spending 5 years in voluntary isolation. He works in the sector which examines the mental health of perpetrators where he has the encounter of an old friend who brings back bitter memories that he tried hard to forget, which turns his life upside down. Attempting to unravel the mysteries of his friend, Yehia embarks on a journey exploring his inner self, or the shattered remnants of it.
Directed by Marwan Hamed, The Blue Elephant is a cinematic adaptation of Ahmed Morad's celebrated best seller of the same name which was released in 2012 and was listed on the Man Booker Prize 2012 shortlist.
Starring Karim Abdelaziz, Khaled Elsawy, Nelly Karim andveteran Lebleba, The Blue Elephant is produced by Albatros Film Production and Distribution, which is founded by Kamel Abu Ali and has successfully produced 37 films and a TV series since it was first established in 2003.
The film is also produced by Lighthouse Films, and Al Shorouk Production. Co-founded in 2007 by Director/Producer Marwan Hamed and Fadi Fahim, Lighthouse Films is a leading production company with a young creative zeal specialized in all parts of media production. The company produces TV content, features and short films.
