MICA feature film by Ismael Ferroukhi Releases on Shahid.net
Feature film MICA, by director Ismael Ferroukhi, shall release on Shahid.net as of July 21st. The film previously toured several festivals across the world, including El Gouna Film Festival, Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, and the Arab Film Festival in Seoul.
It’s also worth mentioning that the film project was selected at the Final Cut in Venice Workshop at Venice International Film Festival, where it received El Gouna Film Festival Prize.
The film follows 10-year-old Mica, who lives with his mother and sick father in a slum near Meknes. He starts apprenticing for his father’s friend, a handyman in a tennis club in Casablanca. After going through humiliation and even being physically abused, Mica starts to understand his situation, and does everything in his power to change it.
MICA is directed by Ismael Ferroukhi, who co-wrote it with Fadette Drouard, and stars Sabrina Ouazani, Azelarab Kaghat, and Zakaria Inan. It is produced by La Prod (Lamia Chraibi), and Elzévir Films (Ulysse Payet). MAD Solutions manages the film’s distribution in the Arab world.
Ismael Ferroukhi is a French-Moroccan film director and screenwriter. Born in Kenitra in 1962, Ferroukhi migrated to France in his youth and grew up in a small city in the south. He gained exposure in 1992 with his short film L’Exposé, which won two prizes (Kodak and Best Short Film prize) at the Cannes Film Festival. His directorial debut, “Le Grand Voyage”, won the Lion of the Future (Best Debut Feature award) at Venice Film Festival in 2004. His last film Free Men was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011.
