MAD Solutions to feature 4 films at Marrakech Int’l Film Festival
MAD Solutions’ distribution slate will be represented by four titles at the Marrakech International Film Festival, which is runnning from November 24th to December 2nd.
 
The lineup includes four feature-length films — DÉSERTS, GOODBYE JULIA, MOROCCAN BADASS GIRL, and BEHIND THE MOUNTAINS.
 

Coming in first in the MAD lineup is Faouzi Bensaidi's DÉSERTS, which follows both gawky associates, Mehdi and Hamid, who work for a collection agency in Casablanca, roam remote villages in the great South of Morocco to get money from overextended people. 


 
The film will be screened twice on Wednesday, November 29th — once at 7:30 pm at PDC – Salle des Ministres and the second at 8:30 pm with director Faouzi Bensaidi and actors Nezha Rahil, Fahd Benchemsi, Rabi Benjhaile, and Abdelhadi Talbi in attendance.
 
Next up is Mohamed Kordofani's award-winning movie GOODBYE JULIA, which follows the story of Mona — a northern Sudanese retired singer in a tense marriage — who is wracked by guilt after covering up a murder. In an attempt to make amends, she takes in the deceased’s Southern Sudanese widow, Julia, and her son, Daniel, into her home.
 
Unable to confess her transgressions to Julia, Mona decides to leave the past behind and adjust to a new status quo, unaware that the country’s turmoil may find its way into her home and put her face to face with her sins.
 
GOODBYE JULIA will be screened on Thursday, November 30th at 9 pm at Cinéma le Colisée. Following the screening, there will be an engaging Q&A session with the film's director, Mohamed Kordofani
 
Third in line is Hicham Lasri's satirical dark comedy MOROCCAN BADASS GIRL, which will be screened in the festival’s Panorama of Moroccan Cinema Section, where it will hold its world premiere on Friday, December 1st at 9 pm at the PDC - Salle des Ambassadeurs in the presence of Lasri and the film's cast, including Fadoua Taleb, Salah Bensalah, Malek Akhmiss, and Lamrani Karam.
 
Last but not least is Mohamed Ben Attia's surreal Tunisian drama BEHIND THE MOUNTAINS, which follows Rafeek, who, after spending four years in jail, decides to take his only son behind the mountains to show him an incredible find. 
 
The film will be screened on Saturday, December 2nd at 2 pm at the PDC - Salle des Ambassadeurs. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with actress Salma Zeghidi.
