MAD Solutions Sends Two Short Films to the Mediterranean Short Film Festival of Tangier
Two films distributed by MAD Solutions are taking part in the 15th edition of the Mediterranean Short Film Festival of Tangier (2 - 7 October). The two films are: The Parrot by directors Darin J. Sallam and Amjad Al-Rasheed's; and Mare Nostrum by directors Rana Kazkaz and Anas Khalaf. The screening of The Parrot will be attended by the film's director Darin J. Sallam.
About Mare Nostrum:
Running for 13 minutes, the film's events take place on the shore of the Mediterranean, where a Syrian father who flees the civil war in Syria with his daughter makes a decision that puts his daughter's life at risk. Directed by Rana Kazkaz and Anas Khalaf, and written by Kazkaz, Mare Nostrum stars Ziad Bakri and Zayn Khalaf. The film is a French-Syrian-Jordanian production and distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.
Mare Nostrum made its world premiere at the Festival International du Cinéma Méditerranéen de Montpellier (CINEMED) in France in October 2016. The film won eight awards including the Best Short Film at the BBC Arabic Festival in London and the First Prize at the Rencontres du Cinéma Européen de Vannes (Vannes European Film Meetings) in France. The film also took part in the Muhr Short competition of the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in 2016, the short film competition of the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, the short film competition of the Sharm El-Sheikh Arab and European Film Festival and screened at the 1st Cairo Cinema Days.
About The Parrot:
The Parrot tells the story of a Mizrahi Jewish family who emigrates from Tunisia and tries to settle into their new life in Haifa, Palestine in 1948. Directed by Darin J. Sallam and Amjad Al-Rasheed, the film stars Hend Sabry, Ashraf Barhoum, Yasmine Ben Amara, Eyad Hourani, Firas Taybeh, Lara Sawalha, and Ahmad Al-Madani, and is written by Amjad Al-Rasheed, Darin J.Sallam, and Rifqi Assaf.
The Parrot had its world premiere at the 13th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) within the Muhr Short competition. The film is funded by the German Foundation Robert Bosch Stiftung (RBS), which funds the Best German-Arab film projects. The Parrot received the 2015 Film Prize of RBS in the short fiction category and is a German/Jordanian co-production between the German company Monokel (Roman Roitman) and the Jordanian company TaleBox (Deema Azar). The film is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.
