MAD Solutions Joins Carthage Film Festival with Four Shorts
MAD Solutions sends off four short films on its distribution list to the 32nd Carthage Film Festival (JCC) in Tunisia (October 30th to November 6th). These films are; Somali film Life on the Horn by Mo Harawe and Jordanian film Arnoos by Samer Battikhi, both competing at the festival’s Official Competition, as well as Sudanese film Al-Sit by Suzannah Mirghani, which will take part in the festival’s Official Section Out Of Competition, and Tunisian film Noor by director Rim Nakhli, within the Parallel sections (Views of Tunisian Cinema: Short Films).

First launched in 1961, the Carthage Film Festival is the oldest event of its kind in the African continent and the Arab World. This year, the festival will screen a roster of 750 Arab and African films in its Official Competition (200 feature films of documentaries and fictions, and 550 short films of documentaries and fictions).

About Life on the Horn:
Previously participating in various international festivals, the film won a number of awards, including a Special Mention from Locarno Festival, and Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF). Life on the Horn sheds light on the issue of the hazardous nuclear waste being released on Somalia’s shores through the story of a young Somali who follows his daily routine in the face of an existential threat coming from the shores.

Life on the Horn features Mo Harawe as the film’s writer, director and Dop, who also co-produced it with Alexander von Piechowski and Deko Adano Ali. It stars Xuseen Abdirisaaq, Maxamed Axmed Maxamed and Faadumo Abshir. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution across the Arab world.

Previously landing its world premiere at El Gouna Film Festival, Arnoos is written and directed by Samer Battikhi, and stars Saba Mubarak, Ahmed Al Omari, Ziad Bakri, Fadi Haddadin, and Mohammed Idris. It’s produced by Pan East Media and Sierra Bravo Productions and is distributed across the Arab world by MAD Solutions.
On a normal day at a shopping square in Amman, Sami, a 15- year- old spoiled naive kid, along with Mahmoud the 15-year-old street-smart hustler and corn seller are ready to execute their plan and steal a surprise gift in order to impress Sami’s girlfriend; unaware of the uncalculated twists that are coming their way from the shop owners.

About Al-Sit:
In a cotton-plantation in Sudan, 15-year-old Nafisa has a crush on Babiker, but her parents have arranged her marriage to Nadir, a young Sudanese businessman who lives abroad. However, Nafisa’s grandmother Al-Sit, the powerful village matriarch, has her own plans for Nafisa’s future. Will Nafisa be able to choose for herself?
The film has won 23 international awards, including 3 awards from Oscar-qualifying festivals. Al-Sit is written and directed by Suzannah Mirghani, who co-produced it along with Eiman Mirghani, and stars Mihad Murtada, Rabeha Mohammed, Mohammed Magdi and Haram Basher. The film is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

About Noor:
The film follows Nour and Adem who set off in search of their father that they have not seen in a long time. With a hope of meeting him, the children cross the city to arrive at the meeting place, but the father doesn’t show. Previously landing its world premiere at Locarno Festival, Noor also participated in a number of festivals, including Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) and Zurich Film Festival, among others.

Written and directed by Rim Nakhli, and produced by Inside Productions (Moncef Taleb), Noor stars Nour El Houda Habbessi and Ayoub Behi. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution in the Arab region.
