MAD Solutions Joins Cairo Shorts Film Festival with 6 Films
MAD Solutions joins the 3rd edition of Cairo Shorts Film Festival (Dec.25-21) with 6 films. The screenings will be held at the Artistic Creativity Center and El Hangar Theatre. The selected films are: Sudanese film Al Sit by Suzannah Mirghani; Lebanese film One Month Old Devil by Ghassan ElKhouja; Egyptian film When the Sea was Blue by Amr Elseyoufi; Egyptian film 18/11 by Medhat Maged; Lebanese film Noor by Rim Nakhli and Somali film Life on the Horn by Mo Harawe.
 
Al Sit:
In a cotton-plantation in Sudan, 15-year-old Nafisa has a crush on Babiker, but her parents have arranged her marriage to Nadir, a young Sudanese businessman who lives abroad. However, Nafisa’s grandmother Al-Sit, the powerful village matriarch, has her own plans for Nafisa’s future. Will Nafisa be able to choose for herself?
 
Al Sit won 25 international awards, including 5 from Oscar-qualifying film festivals. Al-Sit is written and directed by Suzannah Mirghani, who co-produced it along with Eiman Mirghani, and stars Mihad Murtada, Rabeha Mohammed, Mohammed Magdi and Haram Basher. The film is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

 One Month Old Devil:
 Inspired by the late Dutch player, Johan Cruyff’s saying: “Football is like life! You are required to see, think, contemplate and move.”, the former international player in the World Cup qualifiers 1994, Fawzi Yammime, tells the story of his football life through a series of flashbacks highlighting old world cup memories. Fawzi Yammime is also a writer, a university professor and a researcher in football philosophy.
 
The film world premiered at the 36th edition of Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival
 
Directed and written by Ghassan ElKhouja, the One Month Old Devil short documentary’s distribution across the Arab world is handled by MAD Solutions.

When the Sea was Blue:
Mariam is a woman in her forties who feels burdened by the daily routine and boredom. The over-use of technology by people surrounding her puts a barrier in-between her and everyone else. One day she decides to break the dullness by taking the boldest decision in her life.
 
When the Sea was Blue world premiered at Aswan International Women Film Festival. Directed by Amr Elseyoufi, the film features screenwriter Mohamed Zayed, and costume designer Reem El Adl. It stars Heba Abdelghany, Mahmoud Hamdi, Nicole Iskander, and Adam Zayed. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution.

18/11:
The film follows a story of a woman with sleepwalking disorder who was accused of murdering her unfaithful husband. Did she kill him while sleeping or was she conscious? Only the young servant can help in this case as she was the only witness.
 
18/11 world premiered at African Film Festival Atlanta. Directed by Medhat Maged and written by Mohamed Abdallah, the film stars Gehan Anwar, Lama Kutkut, Ali Shawki, and Kareem Sorour. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution.

Noor:
The film follows Nour and Adem who set off in search of their father that they have not seen in a long time. With a hope of meeting him, the children cross the city to arrive at the meeting place, but the father doesn’t show up. Previously landing its world premiere at Locarno Festival, Noor also was selected at a number of festivals, including Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) and Zurich Film Festival, among others.
 
Written and directed by Rim Nakhli, and produced by Inside Productions (Moncef Taleb), Noor stars Nour El Houda Habbessi and Ayoub Behi. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution in the Arab region.

Life on The Horn:
The film won a number of awards, including a Special Mention from Locarno Festival, and Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF). Life on the Horn sheds light on the issue of the hazardous nuclear waste being released on Somalia’s shores through the story of a young Somali who follows his daily routine in the face of an existential threat coming from the shores.
 
Life on the Horn features Mo Harawe as the film’s writer, director and Dop, who also co-produced it with Alexander von Piechowski and Deko Adano Ali. It stars Xuseen Abdirisaaq, Maxamed Axmed Maxamed and Faadumo Abshir. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution across the Arab world.
