MAD Solutions Experts Representing Arab Spring at Berlinale
MAD Solutions will be participating in the Berlin International Film Festival, which will start on 9th till 19th of Febuary. Taking part in the 10th Berlinale Talent Campus are Alaa Karkouti, renowned Film Analyst and an influential professional in the cinema industry, and Maher Diab, Creative Director & Visual Artist. The Berlinale Talent Campus is a creative academy and networking platform for 350 up-and-coming filmmakers from all over the world, lasting for six days, it offers a very big variety of different program elements for actors, directors, cinematographers, distributors, editors, film critics, producers, production designers, screenwriters, sound designers and composers. Karkouti & Diab will specifically be part of the 'Meet the Experts' sessions of the Talent Campus.

Alaa Karkouti will also take part of the World Cinema Fund Day, a panel discussion on Wednesday, February 15th, which is about Filmmakers and the Arab Spring/Insurgency, Poetry and Engagement. The event is split into two panels, the first is a focus on Syrian cinema, highlighting the question of what the social/political situation today means to the artists, filmmakers, and the media sector in general. Panelists for 'Focus Syria' are Hala Al Abdallah, filmmaker, producer & film activist, Mohamed Ali Atassi, filmmaker & journalist, Alaa Karkouti, film analyst.

The second part, 'Documenting Revolution', will cover the many, already produced, documentaries that focused on the Arab Spring, that have been screened and awarded internationally at film festivals. The discussions will revolve around analyzing these productions, and going deeper into the filmmakers' minds, aiming to better understand the political attitude and stylistic priorities of the films, and the personal importance they hold to the filmmakers. Panelists for 'Documenting Revolution' are Hania Mroue, festival organizer & producer, Nadia El Fani, filmmaker, Hala Galal, filmmaker & producer, Nora Younis, journalist, activist & blogger. Vincenzo Bugno, project manager of the World Cinema Fund & Berlinale delegate for the Arab World, will moderate both panels on that day.

As a part of the Festival's official program, the Berlinale Special 2012, the Egyptian documentary,Reporting Revolution, directed by Bassam Mortada, will be screened on Thursday, February 16th, where Alaa Karkouti will be presenting and moderating the Q&A session.

Besides the program, Karkouti will be covering the festival as a journalist and film analyst. In addition, MAD Solutions will have a number of it's clients in Berlin International Film Festival including:

- The Royal Film Commission with The Last Friday by Yahea Alabdalla which will take part in the Berlinle Forum

- DayDream Art Production: producer/editor Mohamed Samir will be participating in the Berlinale Talent Campus and in Berlinale Expanded Forum with Bye Bye which he edited.

- Film Clinic for the film My Brother the Devil, which has been officially selected in the Berlinale Panorama & was screened for first time in last Sundance Film Festival.
