MAD Solutions Boasts Four Films at Festival Cine-Palestine in Paris
Four different films distributed by MAD Solutions have been sent to take part in the fourth edition of the Festival Ciné-Palestine (FCP) in Paris, France that is taking place from May 25 to June 3. The selected MAD films came as follows; three shorts that will be screening within the festival's programme:
BONBONÉ by director Rakan Mayasi, A Drowning Man by director Mahdi Fleifel, and Rupture by director Yassmina Karajah, and the award-winning feature film The Reports on Sarah and Saleem by director Muayad Alayan.
The feature film opened the events of the festival, landing its screening at 07:30 pm at the Luminor Hotel de Ville, and was followed by a panel discussion with the attendance of the film's director and star Maisa Abd Elhadi, in addition to Palestinian director Mai Masri who hosted the opening ceremony as an honoring for her prominent filmmaking career.
The short films are scheduled to screen at the Luxembourg Cinema in Paris on Tuesday, May 29, at 08:30 pm (France Time). The award ceremony for the Jury Awards and the Audience Awards will be held following the screenings on the same night. The Reports on Sarah and Saleem will have a second screening on Sunday, June 3.
About The Reports on Sarah and Saleem:
The film is written by Rami Alayan and directed by Muayad Alayan. Set in Jerusalem, Sarah and Saleem are having an extramarital affair that ignites a dangerous game of deceit between those who hold power and those who don't.
The Reports on Sarah and Saleem landed its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and won the Special Jury Award for Best Screenplay and the Audience Award (Hubert Bals) within the official Tiger HivosCompetition, as well as the Audience Award (Hubert Bals). It also screened in the European Film Market within the events of Berlinale.
The film won the production support of the Arab Fund for the Arts and Culture (AFAC), Film Lab Palestine, World Cinema Fund (WCF), Hubert BalsDevelopment Fund (HBF), the Netherlands Film Fund + HBF and the HBF + Europe coproduction scheme among others. Written by Rami Alayan, The Reports on Sarah and Saleem stars Maisa Abd Elhadi, Adeeb Safadi and Kamel El Basha and written by Rami Alayan. The film is a joint production between PalCineProductions in Palestine and co-producers KeyFilm in the Netherlands, ManderleyFilms GmbH in Germany, and Monofilms in Mexico. The leading Arab world partner, MAD Solutions, handles the distribution of the film in the Arab world.
About BONBONÉ
In less than 16 minutes, BONBONÉ follows a Palestinian inmate serving time in an Israeli jail receives a visit from his wife who devises a bold and crafty operation to fulfill their secret desires.
BONBONÉ landed its world premiere at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) within the Short Cuts section. The film is slated to commerciallyrelease in theatres soon.
Written and directed by Rakan Mayasi, BONBONÉ stars Saleh Bakri, RanaAlamuddin and features Nadira Omran. BONBONÉ is produced by Groundglass235 in co-production with The Postoffice andMad4Films, and in association with db Studios. MAD Solutions is responsible for distributing the film across the Arab world and Salaud Morisset is responsible of international sales.
About A Drowning Man:
Alone and far from home, the kid makes his way through a strange city looking for the means to get through his day. Surrounded by predators, he is forced to make compromises merely to survive, and his life of exile grows one day longer.
The film made its world premiere at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival as the only Arab participation in the Short Films competition and participated in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), within its Short Cuts competition.
Written and directed by Mahdi Fleifel, A Drowning Man stars Atef Alshafei, Jalal Qaniry, Mounir Al khateeb, Rebih El-Saleous, and Thymios Koukios. The film is produced by Final Cut for Real, Nakba Film Works and distributed through the Arab world by MAD Solutions, while Salaud Morisset is handling the film's world sales.
About Rupture:
Rupture follows the journey of four Arab teens on their quest to find the local public pool in their new Canadian city. The film introduces a cast of first time actors and survivors of war who channel their personal experiences of loss and new beginnings through a fictional narrative. The film stars Asaad Al Arid, Salam Almarzouq, Hussein Al Ahmad and Wazira Al Ahmad.
Rupture is written and directed by Yassmina Karajah, produced by David Findlay, Leen Issa and Virginie Nolin. The film is distributed by MAD Solutions in the Arab world.Rupture made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Best B.C. Short Film Award at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) in Canada.
