MAD Shorts AL SIT and BUZZ to be screened at ADEF
MAD Solutions' short films AL SIT by Suzannah Mirghani and BUZZ by Mohamed Fawi are scheduled to screen at the Arab Digital Expression Foundation (ADEF) in Egypt on Tuesday, September 5th, as a tribute to Sudanese cinema.
The ADEF is a multidimensional Arab organization that creates spaces, fosters environments for expression and learning, enhances skills, and cultivates knowledge.
Mohamed Fawi’s BUZZ — who also co-wrote the script with Ahmed Shaweesh and Noura Adil — features Jasour Abuelgasim, Zahra Mansour, and Ali Abdalgafar in starring roles.
It is also produced by director Amjad Abu Alala — the director of Sudan’s first-ever submission to the Academy Awards YOU WILL DIE AT TWENTY — in collaboration with producer Mohamed Al-Omda, who co-produced Yemen’s first-ever selection for the Berlin International Film Festival THE BURDENED.
The film follows the story of a sick mother who watches her son and daughter prepare for her inevitable passing and their new reality as her health deteriorates.
Previously, BUZZ world premiered at the 2022 Cairo International Film Festival, where it competed in the festival’s Official Competition.
On the other hand, Suzannah Mirghani’s AL SIT — which premiered at the latest edition of the Ajyal Film Festival in Qatar — also received numerous awards from prestigious festivals in Beirut, Zanzibar, Ismailia, Toronto, Malmo, Busan, Spain, Korea and France.
On a cotton plantation in Sudan, 15-year-old Nafisa finds herself smitten with Babiker. Unfortunately, her parents have already arranged for her to marry Nadir — a young Sudanese businessman residing overseas.
Yet, Nafisa's grandmother, Al-Sit — a formidable matriarch in the village — harbors her own ambitions for Nafisa's destiny. Will Nafisa find the freedom to make her own choices?
Written and directed by Suzannah Mirghani, who co-produced it alongside Eiman Mirghani, AL SIT features a talented cast including Mihad Murtada, Rabeha Mohammed, Mohammed Magdi, Alsir Mahjoub, and Haram Basher.
