Ihsen Kammoun’s ROAD TO EL KEF screens at Manarat Mediterranean Film Festival
Ihsan Kammoun’s Tunisian short ROAD TO EL KEF recently screened at the fourth edition of the Manarat Mediterranean Film Festival, which is running from July 22nd to the 29th in Tunisia.
The short tells the story of a vulnerable teenager living in northern Tunisia who charts a path that threatens to tear apart what remains of his family after he loses his mother and brother.
The film — which premiered at the Carthage Film Festival, won the Best Foreign Short Film award at the Alameda International Film Festival, and was nominated for the Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival — is headlined by award-winning Tunisian actor Ahmed Hafiane and MESSIAH star Fares Landoulsi alongside a star-studded Tunisian cast that includes Malek Ben Saad, Sawsen Maalej, and Alaa Edine Yacoubi.
ROAD TO EL KEF participated in several other international festivals, including the Festival Les Nuits Méditerranéennes, Vancouver, Arab, Montecatini, Dearborn, Molodist Kyiv, and Rabat international film festivals.
The film is directed and produced by Kammoun, written by Charles Hall, co-produced by Anis Kriaa — with major production by Karabila Productions and Eqlae Pictures LLC — lensed by Frida Marzouk, edited by Laith Al-Majali, and composed by Suad Bushnaq. Meanwhile, MAD Solutions is responsible for distributing the film in the Arab world.
Born in 1984 in Sfax, Tunisia, Kammoun is an American Tunisian producer, director, and writer with a bachelor of arts in English literature and linguistics. His first claim to fame was in 2009 when he sparked a music video production trend in the independent Tunisian music scene.
With life experiences that allowed him to explore a richness of perspectives on human experiences, he eventually founded the motion picture production company EQLAE PICTURES in 2019.
His work usually covers stories that explore the reason behind the differences between people to encourage them to exercise their humanity.
