Hend Sabry Gives the closing Speech at TEDx Cairo
Superstar Hend Sabry is getting ready to attend the TEDx Cairo Women conference at the American University in Cairo's Greek Campus on Saturday, May 30th. The socially active Arab star is expected to give a speech at the closing ceremony titled "My Mother and the Theory of Relativity".
The conference, which will begin from 9:00 am and ends at 5:00 pm, will allow every speaker 15 minutes to tell a story, or several stories, about visionary, heroic, and adventurous women. The day's events will be divided into three sessions with two coffee breaks and a lunch break in between.
TEDx Cairo Women is part of a series of non-profit conferences organized by TED. It began in December 2013 and is considered a platform that brings people together to share their different ideas and experiences concerning women's issues. TED has over one million subscribers on YouTube, the main platform through which audiences can view the speeches given by TED speakers as the conferences are attended by invitation only.
Hend Sabry is one of four distinguished women who have helped promote the Uprising of Women in the Arab World campaign on Facebook, a movement inspired by the Arab spring promoting gender equality in accordance with the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights and calling for freedom, independence, and security for Arab women.
Sabry is active in social and humanitarian work. Since 2009, she has been working closely with the UN World Food Programto raise awareness about hunger in the Arab region. In 2010, Hend officially became a WFP Regional Ambassador against Hunger.
Last April, she collaborated with 13 Arab stars to create a video titled "Visit Tunisia" to promote Tunisian tourism by displaying the country's beautiful cities and touristic landmarks aiming to attract Arab tourists after the terrorist attack that took place at Bardo Museum.
In response to the attack, Hend took part in an international march against terrorism in Tunisia, which was called for by Tunisian President, Beji Caid Essebsi.
