Film Analyst Alaa Karkouti Takes Part in Roundtable Discussion on Intellectual Property in Cinema
Film Analyst Alaa Karkouti (MAD Solutions and Arab Cinema Center) took part in a roundtable discussion on Monday, May 1st, that was held as part of WIPO SCCR 34 in Geneva, entitled "Using the Copyright Framework to Help Build Sustainable Audiovisual Industries Worldwide".

During the session, Alaa Karkouti spoke about Arab Cinema Center (ACC) and its role in supporting filmmakers, its expanding role in recent years. He also discussed how ACC has begun promoting the significance of intellectual property rights in the Arab world and the importance of spreading awareness of it to ensure the continuation of the film industry in the region.

The discussion was organized by the International Federation of Film Producers' Association (FIAPF), in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Senegal to the United Nations, and was moderated by Bertrand Moullier, Senior Advisor at FIAPF. Alongside Karkouti, several speakers took part in the session, including Producer Oumar Sall (Cinékap), Advisor Aziz Dieng (Ministry of Culture, Senegal), and Philip Hoffman (Managing Director of Rushlake Media GmbH).

This event is designed to offer WIPO SCCR delegates a deeper understanding of the practical ways in which producers, distributors and creators of audiovisual content utilize the international and national copyright framework to develop, finance and produce their works and to maximize opportunities for legal distribution through both traditional media and digital platforms.
