DayDream Gets Active at Cinema Events in Lebanon
DayDream announced that the short feature Zafir will participate in the Short Film Competition at Ayam Beirut Al Cinema'iya Arab Festival that runs from 15th March to 24th March, 2013. The film is directed by Omar El Zohairy and produced by DayDream which is founded and directed by filmmaker Mohamed Samir.
Simultaneously, DayDream's project Cows Farm by director Ali Sheikh Khedr will be part of the DOCmedprogramme based in Lebanon. The film is about a Syrian farmer who lives in isolation from the tense battles taking place in his country. Although he's pro-Syrian regime, he's reluctant to join the Syrian Armed Forces. Ten young Arab documentary filmmakers were selected to participate in the DOCmed training which is divided into three workshops. The first session will take place in March and will focus on the development of projects. The second and third sessions will be held later in 2013 and they will focus on co-production and distribution.
Zafir is the first short film produced by DayDream. The film's premiere was in the 8th Dubai International Film Festival, where it won the Special Mention Award within the Muhr Competition for Short Feature Films. Zafirwent on to participate in numerous festivals including the Rencontres de l'image Festival, which was organized by the French Cultural Center in April 2012. The film also received the Excellence Award at the 12 GoetheIndependent Short Film Festival.
Zafir tells the story of an old married couple living a silent life. The 20 minutes film was shot over the course of five successive days. The two actors were selected from a nursing home, with no previous acting experience prior to their roles in Zafir.
Founded by producer and director Mohamed Samir, DayDream aims to bring new experiences to the Egyptian film market that reflect the company's uniquely creative vision to introduce professional independent films.
