After the Battle Widely Participates in International Film Festivals
After the Battle has successfully participated in a number of international film festivals including MonsInternational Love Film Festival that was held in Belgium where the film won the Town of Mons special prize. The Belgium Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo presented the prize to director Yusri Nasrallah, making it the first to be won by After the Battle in an international festival. Produced by Dollar Film (New Century), the film is co-written by Amr Shama and Yusri Nasrallah, and stars Menna Shalabi, Bassem Samra, Nahed Al Sebai, and Fedra Al Masri.
After the Battle was selected in the 61st Catholic Center Cinema Festival that runs starting from March 4th, 2013. Five films produced last year, including After the Battle, were selected by the festival's administration to compete for the Catholic Center Festival awards. Two other Dollar Film (New Century) productions are participating in the competition namely; Gedo Habibi and Mosawer Kateel.
After the Battle had previously participated in a vast number of international film festivals including CannesInternational Film Festival, making it the first Egyptian participating film after fifteen years of absence. Also the film was screened at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, however it was put aside from the official competition because it was commercially released in theatres in Abu Dhabi.
After the Battle also had participated in the official competition at the 24th Carthage Film Festival that was held in November, 2012. The screenings were a huge success and the film was critically acclaimed and described as one of the most important meditations on the Arab Spring revolutions. The film was also successfully screened in French theatres.
The film tells the story of Reem, a young Egyptian political activist, during the period of the Egyptian revolution after the Battle of Camels on February 2012 till the Maspero Demonstrations on October 2011.Reem goes on a field research that leads her to deal with many people. She meets Mahmoud, an Egyptian who lost his job due to the circumstances of the revolution, and decided to contribute in attacking protestors in tahrir square during the Battle of the Camels, and Reem sympathizes with him in the end.
