Weldi Competes in the Official Competition - Feature Films at the Carthage Film Festival (JCC)

Tunisian feature film Weldi by director Mohamed Ben Attia will compete in the Official Competition - Feature Films at the 29th Carthage Film Festival (JCC) (November 3-10), making its Tunisian premiere.

Created in 1961, the Carthage Film Festival is the oldest event of its kind on the African continent and the Arab World. This year, the festival will screen more than 200 films, produced in 2017 and 2018, from 47 countries in its different sections, including 54 Arab films.

Weldi won the Grand Prix at the Festival du Film Méditerranée de Bastia in France marking its second award after Tunisian actor Mohamed Dhrif won the El Gouna Star for Best Actor at the 2nd El Gouna Film Festival.

Weldi follows Riadh, who is about to retire from his work as a forklift operator at the port of Tunis. The life he shares with his wife Nazli revolves around their only son Sami, who is preparing for his high school exams. The boy's repeated migraine attacks are a cause of much worry to his parents. But when he finally seems to be getting better, Sami suddenly disappears.

Written and directed by Mohamed Ben Attia, and produced by Dora Bouchoucha's Nomadis Images, Les Films du Fleuve and Tanit Films, Weldi stars Mohamed Dhrif, Mouna Mejri, Zakaria Ben Ayed, Imen Cherif, Taylan Mintas and Tarik Copti. The film is distributed by MAD Solutions in the Arab world.

Weldi made its world premiere at this year's edition of the Cannes Film Festival within its Directors' Fortnight section. The film was also screened at the BFI London Film Festival and the Festival du Film Arabe de Fameck in France.
