Tunis by Night Screens at Americana Plaza Cinema in Sheikh Zayed, Wednesday

Elyes Baccar's film Tunis by Night will screen at Americana Plaza Cinema on Wednesday, 9 October, at 4:00 PM. The film made its international premiere at the 39th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), where its lead, Raouf Ben Amor, won the Best Actor Award.

The film won the Special Jury Award and the Special Interpretation Award to its star Amira Chebli at the Casablanca International Film Festival in Morocco, who also won the Award for Best Actress at the Oran International Arabic Film Festival.

Tunis by Night follows Youssef, who after more than two decades working for Tunisia's national radio, is on his way to retirement. He is viciously cut off broadcasting during the last episode of his programme "Tunis by night". Youssef's family portrays the different lifestyles in Tunisia, as each member of his family suffers from major conflicts. Youssef takes refuge at the Saint George, the adjacent bar, where he empties his mind after emptying a few bottles of wine. He then runs away from his family to be engulfed by a city he does not recognize anymore...

Written and directed by Elyes Baccar, Tunis by Night stars Raouf Ben Amor, Amel Hedhili, Amira Chebli and Helmi Dridi. The film is co-produced by Elyes Baccar and Mohamed Ali Ben Hamra. MAD Solutions handles the film's Arab world distribution.

After graduating from the Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français in France, Elyes Baccar worked as assistant director in several Tunisian and international films. In 2006, Baccar directed his first film She & He that received several awards as the best short documentary at many festivals. Rouge Parole, his documentary was acclaimed by international critics and won several awards. Tunis by Night is Baccar's second feature film.
