Three MAD Films to Take Part in the Beirut International Women Film Festival


Three films distributed by MAD Solutions will take part in the Beirut International Women Film Festival (BWFF) (13 -18 March) under the theme "Women's Empowerment". Director Mai Masri's film 3000 Nights and Go Home by director Jihane Chouaib will screen in the Feature Fiction Films section on Wednesday, 14 March, while director Hady Zaccak's film Ya Omri (104 Wrinkles)will screen in the Feature Documentary section on Thursday, 15 March.

The Beirut International Women Film Festival (BWFF) aims to highlight the role of cinema as a window on societal issues at large, and women's issues in particular. It also tackles issues such as gender equality, sexual identity, domestic violence, and women's success stories as a driving force in society.

About 3000 Nights:

Director Mai Masri's film 3000 Nights has won 18 awards at international festivals, and was Palestine's official submission for the Golden Globe Awards.

3000 Nights is a co-production between Jordan, Palestine, France, UAE, Qatar and Lebanon. MAD Solutions is in charge of the distribution of the film in the Arab world. 3000 Nights tells the story of a young Palestinian school teacher who gives birth to her son in an Israeli prison, where she fights to protect him, survive and maintain hope. The film stars Maisa Abdelhadi, Nadera Omran, Raida Adon, Rakeen Saad, Abeer Haddad, Anahid Fayad, Haifa Al Agha, Khitam Edelbi and Hana Chamoun.

About Go Home:

Go Home follows Nada, who is returning to her abandoned family home in Lebanon that was destroyed and dilapidated by the war, turning its garden into a dump. She decides to resettle in this place amidst her childhood memories, setting a mission for herself: finding the body of her grandfather who had disappeared during the Civil War. Her journey leads her to discover myths and secrets while searching for her own identity.

Go Home stars award-winning Iranian star Golshifteh Farahani, who began her career at the age of 14 and won five awards at five different film festivals. Farahani also starred alongside Leonardo Dicaprio in Body of Lies, becoming the first Iranian actress to take part in a Hollywood production since 1979. The film is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

Supported by Enjaaz Programme, Go Home was nominated for the Best Feature Film Award within the Best Muhr Fiction Feature competition at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in 2015. In the same year, the film was nominated for the New Currents Award at the Busan International Film Festival. Go Home also concluded the events of the 12th Lebanese Film Festival and took part in the 5th Silk Road Film Festival in Dublin, Ireland.

About Ya Omri (104 Wrinkles):

Director Hady Zaccak follows his grandmother Henriette as she ages and crosses the centenarian milestone to reach 104 years. He witnesses the transformation of her memory, her emigration from Lebanon to Brazil and the stories of love, children and suspended time. The film is written and directed by Hady Zaccak, produced by ZAC Films and distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

Ya Omri (104 Wrinkles) won the Jury Award at the Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF) in Sweden, and before that it won the Award of Merit at the Docs Without Borders Film Festival in Nassau, USA and an Appreciation Award at the Impact Docs Awards. Landing its world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), where it competed within the Muhr Feature Competition, Ya Omri (104 Wrinkles) took part in several film festivals including Beirut Cinema Days 2017, Sharm El Sheikh Arab and European Film Festival, where it marked the sole documentary within the International Features Competition, Cairo Cinema Days and Lebanese Film Festival (LFF) in Sydney, Australia.
