The Morphine Melody Lands World Premiere at Cairo International Film Festival


The Moroccan film The Morphine Melody by director Hicham Amal has been selected for world premiere at the 42 nd Cairo International Film Festival (December 2-12) where it competes in Horizons of Arab Cinema competition. The film will be screened with English and Arabic subtitles in the attendance of the film’s director Hicham Amal.  

Due to Covid-19 safety precautions, the 42 nd edition of Cairo International Film Festival has decreased the number of the participating films by half, making the final total of the films around 84 from across 43 countries. The screenings will take place at Cairo Opera House and Zamalek Cinema.

The Morphine Melody follows Saïd Ettayer, a talented and a well- known violinist who lost his memory in a car accident. He gradually starts to remember all his memories and he gets back to his normal life after a few days. However, months later, he realizes that he cannot remember how he used to create music.

Written, directed and edited by Hicham Amal, the film is produced by Caravan Chergui Productions and features an all-Moroccan cast including, Hicham Bahloul, Yasmina Bennani, Hassan Badida and Abdellan BenSaid. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution across the Arab world.

Hicham Amal is a Moroccan director and scriptwriter. He kick started his career as a scriptwriter
in Morocco's first and second national television channels where he worked on several TV scripts. In 2016, He finished his award-winning feature degbut The Morphine Melody, which received Best Editing and Best First Feature Film awards at the Moroccan National Film Festival in Tangier, Morocco, and was selected to compete within Muhr Awards Programme at the Dubai International Film Festival. A remake of The Morphine Melody has been released in 2020.
