Song Without a Name Screens at Zawya Cinema as of Wednesday, February 10
Peruvian feature film Song Without a Name by director Melina León, which previously won 15 international awards, will screen at Zawya Cinema, Downtown, as of Wednesday, February 10, where it is slated to have six screenings.

The film is based on a true story in Peru at the height of the political crisis of the 1980’s. Georgina is a young woman from the Andes whose newborn daughter is stolen at a fake health clinic. Her desperate search for the child leads her to the headquarters of a major newspaper, where she meets Pedro Campos, a lonely journalist who takes on the investigation.

Song Without a Name screened at many international film festivals, winning 15 awards, including the CineVision Award at the Munich International Film Festival, FIPRESCI Award and a Jury Special Mention for Best Innovative Film at the Nouveau Cinema Montreal Film Festival, !nspired Award for Best Film at the !F Istanbul International Film Festival, and the Special Jury Mention for Best Film at the Biarritz Latin American Film Festival. The film landed its world premiere at the Directors Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Melina León who co-wrote it with Michael J. White, Song Without a Name stars Pamela Mendoza, Tommy Pàrraga and Lucio Rojas. The film is produced by La Vida Misma Films and co-produced by MGC, La Mula Producciones and Bord Cadre Films. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution in the Arab world.

Melina León is a Peruvian director based in Lima and New York. She studied film and video at the University of Lima and studied film directing at Columbia University. Her short film El Paraíso de Lili (Lili's Paradise), was officially premiered at the New York Film Festival and has been selected at more than 20 international festivals, winning 11 awards, including the Best Latin American short film at the Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival.

Her debut feature Canción Sin Nombre (Song Without a Name) won the national feature film competition by the Ministry of Culture of Peru, the fund for production by the Jerome Foundation and the support program for co-production by Ibermedia.
