Short Film Five Boys and A Wheel Takes Part in the Sudan Film Screens

While participating in the Oran International Arabic Film Festival in Algeria, Jordanian-Palestinian short film Five Boys and A Wheel by director Said Zagha will be screening as part of the Arab Short Films of the Sudan Film Screens programme, organized by the Sudan Film Factory initiative, at 8:00 pm (GMT +3) on Thursday, July 27.

The Sudan Film Factory is an independent cultural organization that aims at qualifying and building up the capacities of young Sudanese talents, producing films and exposing Sudanese audience to film making and cinema. The institute serves as an umbrella for a range of activities in the field of filmmaking, filling the current gap in Sudan and supporting a qualified training program to develop the cultural infrastructure of filmmaking. The Arab Short Films is a section of short film screenings that is held monthly at the institute's headquarters within a unique and wide-ranging programme of a list of the best films from all over the world.

Five Boys and A Wheel made its world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in its Muhr Short competition. The film had its North American premiere at the 40th Portland International Film Festival (PIFF) in February, 2017, while its European premiere was at the Middle East Now Festival
in Italy. The film also screened at several other festivals, including: the MOOOV Film Festival in Belgium, Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts
and the Festival Ciné-Palestine in Paris.

Based on American author Raymond Carver's short story 'Bicycles, Muscles, Cigarettes', the film is set in Jordan where a young father has to help his son out of a petty conflict with the neighbors. As the parents of each respective family are summoned to discuss the issue at hand, the discussions begin to quickly spin out of control, putting the values of the father to test.

The film received support from the Royal Film Commission - Jordan (RFC). Five Boys and A Wheel stars Ali Suliman, Nadira Omran, Haydar Kfoof, and is produced by Akram Al-Ashqar, Ahmad Khatib and director Said Zagha. MAD Solutions is handling the film's distribution across the Arab world.

Said Zagha is a Palestinian filmmaker from Ramallah. He earned his bachelor's degree in English and Film from Ohio's Kenyon College in 2011. Said is currently developing his first feature film, entitled The Girl.
