Saudi Film Ertidad Official Selection at Bali International Short Film Festival


Saudi film Ertidad (Goin South) by director Mohammed Al Hamoud has been announced an official selection at the Bali International Short Film Festival (December 4-12), raising the tally to ten international film festivals.

The film marks the first Saudi entry in the official competition at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, and had several international screenings at prestigious film festivals; Cleveland International Film Festival in USA, Kolkata International Film Festival and Dhaka International Film Festival in Asia, Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF Shorts) in Estonia, Lublin Film Festival in Poland, and Arab Film Festival Rotterdam in Netherlands.

A newlywed couple pays their first visit to the groom's hometown, a small southern Saudi village, where they will celebrate their marriage. Nervous and desperate for her in-laws' approval, the bride, Ayah, makes a daring choice, while her husband, Nader, tries to cope with the consequences. The new relationship is put to its first test.

The film stars Fatima Albanawi, and Ayman Mutahar, Ertidad (Goin South) received a funding grant from the King Abdul Aziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) after winning the Saud Film Days in 2017. Ertidad was entirely shot in Al Hasamah village in Jizan Province, south-western Saudi Arabia. The film is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.
