Producer-Screenwriter Mohamed Hefzy Attends Yomeddine's Screenings at the Cannes Film Festival

Producer/Screenwriter Mohamed Hefzy is flying to France to attend the world premiere of the film Yomeddine by director Abu Bakr Shawky, which he co-produces through his company Film Clinic. Director Abu Bakr Shawky's feature film directorial debut will be vying for the Palme d'Or Award, marking the first Egyptian film to participate in the festival's official competition after six years of absence.

Hefzy is also going to take part in a panel discussion titled "Creative Producers: The Other Visionaries" on Sunday, May 13 at 11:00 AM at the Pantiero 207. During the discussion, Hefzy will talk about the impact of creative producers on any artistic project from talent scouting to managing expectations and balancing art and business.

Yomeddine is produced by Desert Highway Pictures, co-founded by Shawky and producer Dina Emam, in coproduction with Film Clinic (Mohamed Hefzy). After the announcement of the film's selection, Director Abu Bakr Shawky expressed his great joy for selecting his feature directorial debut to screen at the Cannes Film Festival and representing Egypt in this prestigious international festival. He can't wait for his film to be screened in his homeland, Egypt.

Hefzy's latest participation in the festival was through his film Clash that opened the prestigious Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. He also produced one of the ten chapters of the film 18 Days that was screened as part of the festival's Special Screenings section in 2012.

Written and directed by Abu Bakr Shawky, Yomeddine follows a Coptic leper and his orphaned apprentice, who leave the confines of the leper colony for the first time and embark on a journey across Egypt to search for what is left of their families.

Yomeddine stars Rady Gamal and Ahmed Abdelhafiz. Shawky collaborated with Argentinian Cinematographer Federico Cesca, Editor Erin Greenwell and Music Composer Omar Fadel, who scored the film.

Abu Bakr Shawky is an Egyptian-Austrian writer, director and editor. He made several documentaries including the award-winning film The Colony (2009) that talked about Abu Zaabal Leper Colony.
