My Uncle Runs in Moroccan Theaters For the Sixth Consecutive Week

For the sixth week in a row, My Uncle by Nassim Abassi continues its successful run in Moroccan theaters attracting audiences to watch this social comedy that reveals many of the unknown sides of the Moroccan film industry. Most recently, the film's production company, MOONDUST PRODUCTIONS, has released a new poster for the film. The company also released a song titled Mahma Darou on the International Women's Day on March 8, 2017, performed by the film's lead actress Alia Erkab alongside rapper Black Jaguar. The song talks about the challenges Moroccan actresses face in society and the stereotypes of women working in the entertainment industry, especially actresses.

The main character of My Uncle is inspired by the celebrated Chaplin-style character, often known as Abderraouf, created by actor Abderrahim Tounsi, which was hugely popular in the 1970s and the early 1980s, but then his popularity started to fade away. He is the uncle of a young struggling Moroccan actress who strives to achieve her dream of becoming a celebrated actress. His visit to his niece reveals many of the darker sides of the Moroccan film industry.

My Uncle is written and directed by Nassim Abassi, who also produces it through MOONDUST PRODUCTIONS. The film received a grant from the Centre Cinématographique Marocain (CCM) and will be distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

My Uncle features a group of stars from Morocco, namely: Alia Erkab, Abderrahim Tounsi(Abderraouf), Manal Essaddiki, Souad Alaoui, Ibtissam Laaroussi, Majid Lakroun, Mohammed Khiari, Nourredine Bikr, Brahim Khay, Hajar Chargui and Aziz Dades.

Director NassimAbassi studied Filmmaking at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in the UK. He has produced and directed several short films both in the UK and in Morocco, which were well-received in the film festival circuit, across the UK and beyond. His first feature film as a screenwriter and director is Majid, which enjoyed audience and critical acclaim in Morocco and took part in more than 30 film festivals around the world and won over 10 international awards since its release.
