MAD Solutions Sends Three Short Films to the Dubai International Film Festival


MAD Solutions has revealed the news on taking part at the 13th edition of the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) (7- 14 December) with three short films from its list of clientele within the Muhr Shorts Competition. The three MAD films are: The Parrot by directors Amjad Elrashed and Darine Salam (World Premiere); Five Boys and a Wheel by director Said Zagha (World Premiere); and Submarine by director Mounia Akl (Arab world Premiere).

DIFF is one of the most important film festivals in the Arab world. In each edition, DIFF showcases over 120 features, shorts films and documentaries from around the world and will include several world premieres. Every year DIFF presents new and exciting cinema from the Arab world and beyond, introducing audiences to fresh, new talent and original and distinctive filmmaking.

About The Parrot:
The Parrot is a German/Jordanian co-production which is directed by AmjadElrashed and Darin Salam. The film won the Robert Bosch Stiftung Film Prize for the short fiction film project (Jordan-Germany). The Parrot is funded by the Royal Film Commission-Jordan and MAD Solution is handling the film distribution through the Arab world.

Synopsis:
The Parrot follows a Mizrahi Jewish family from Morocco, who tries to settle in to their new life in 1948 Haifa, Palestine, and is haunted by a disturbing house guest, a left behind big red parrot from the former Arab residents.

About Five Boys and a Wheel:
Directed by Said Zagha, Five Boys and a Wheel stars Ali Suliman, Nadera Omran and Haidar Kfouf. The film is a co-production between Jordan and Palestine and is produced by Akram Al-Ashqar, Ahmad Khatib and Said Zagha. MAD Solution is handling the film distribution through the Arab world.

Synopsis:
A young father has to help his son out of a petty conflict with the neighbors. As the parents of each respective family are summoned to discuss the issue at hand, the discussions begin to quickly spin out of control, putting the values of the father to test. Set in Aqaba, Jordan, this short film is an Arabic-language adaptation of Raymond Carver's Bicycles, Muscles, Cigarettes.

About Submarine:
Directed by Monia Akl and produced by Cyril Aris and Jinane Chaaya, Lebanese short film Submarine stars Yumna Marwan, Julian Farhat, and Adel Chahine. Submarine was awarded the James Bridges Production Grant. The film had its world premiere at the 69thCannes Film Festival and took part at the 41st Toronto International Film Festival. The film is distributed by MAD Solutions in the Arab world.

Synopsis:
Under the imminent threat of Lebanon's garbage crisis, Hala, a wild child inside of a woman is the only one to refuse evacuation, clinging to whatever remains of home.
