MAD Solutions Screens Three Films at the Warehouse 421- Season V in Abu Dhabi


MAD Solutions is screening three films from its distribution list at the Warehouse 421 - Season V of the Contemporary Arab Film Series organized by Cinema Akil in collaboration with Warehouse 421. A Drowning Man (short film) by director Mahdi Fleifel will be screened on Wednesday, April 4 at 07:30 pm, Submarine (short film) by director Mounia Akl will be screened on Wednesday, April 18 at 07:30 pm, and Hedi (feature film) by director Mohamed Ben Attia will be screened on Monday, April 26 at 07:30 pm.

This year Warehouse 421 delves deeper into the nuances in and around contemporary Arab cinema. Definitions of masculinity, womanhood, exploitation, victimization, opportunism and heroism collapse into each other to present a program focusing on vulnerability and its manifestations. Spanning Beirut to Tunis to the Gulf and in between, this season is all about pulling from the margins, by highlighting the films which explore and express the vast physical, emotional and socio-political nuances present in contemporary Arab life.

About A Drowning Man:
Alone and far from home, the Kid makes his way through a strange city looking for the means to get through his day. Surrounded by predators he is forced to make compromises merely to survive, his life of exile grows one day longer.

Written and directed by Mahdi Fleifel, A Drowning Man, the BAFTA nominated film for Best British Short Film,stars Atef Alshafei, Jalal Qaniry, Mounir Al khateeb, Rebih El-Saleous, and Thymios Koukios. The film is produced by Final Cut for Real, Nakba Film Works and distributed through the Arab world by MAD Solutions, while Salaud Morisset is handling the film's world sales.

About Hedi:
The film follows Hedi (Majd Mastoura), a young man of few words who doesn't expect much from the future and lets others make his big decisions for him. His mother is preparing his marriage to Khadija, but two days before that; Hedi meets Rim (Rym Ben Messaoud) in the city of Mahdia, who captivates him by her free-spirit, and he finds himself obsessed with this new-born passion.

The film is written and directed by Mohamed Ben Attia, and co-produced by Dora Bouchoucha, NadimCheikhrouha, along with Belgian producers and directors, the brothers Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne. MAD Solutions is handling the film distribution through the Arab world.

About Submarine:

Under the imminent threat of Lebanon's garbage crisis, Hala, a wild child inside of a woman, is the only one to refuse evacuation, clinging to whatever remains of home.

Directed by Mounia Akl, Submarine stars Yumna Marwan, Julian Farhat, and Adel Chahine. Produced by Cyril Aris and Jinane Chaaya, and distributed by MAD Solutions in the Arab world, Submarine was also awarded the James Bridges production grant.

The film landed its world premiere at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, followed by its participation at the Toronto International Film Festival, in addition to 20 international festivals. Submarine has won the Special Jury Prize in the Muhr Short competition at the 13th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).
