Filmatique Screens 4 Films Distributed by MAD Solutions to US and Canadian Audiences


Within its December screenings program, Filmatique VOD platform will present four films distributed by MAD Solutions, including The Miscreants (Les Mecerantes) by director Mohcine Besri, Harag W' Marag by Nadine Khan, Coming Forth by Day by Hala Lotfy, and Challat of Tunis by Kaouthar Ben Hania.

The four films will be screened within a series that includes films by North African filmmakers, including first and second projects by promising directors from Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.

Established in November 2016, Filmatique specializes in providing online film streaming services in the Unites States. Since then, they have distributed 52 films to American audiences, interviewed 28 award-winning filmmakers from around the world, cultivated an editorial focus with their monthly series, premiered their first original production and launched their streaming service in Canada.

About The Miscreants (Les Mecerantes) (Screening Now):
Three young Islamists kidnap a group of actors who are about to go on tour with their latest show. Ensues a 7-day no exit situation, in which both sides are forced to live together, confront each other and challenge their mutual prejudices.

The Miscreants is written and directed by Mohcine Besri, and stars Amine Ennaji, Jamila El Haouni, Maria Lalouaz, Omar Lotfi, and Mustapha El Houari. The film took part in over 20 film festivals and won over 10 awards.

About Harag W' Marag (Starting December 8th)
Marking Nadine Khan's feature directorial debut, Harag W' Marag is produced and edited by Dina Farouk. The film is written by Khan, with a script by Mohamed Nasser and stars Ayten Amer, Mohamed Farrag, and Ramsi Lehner.

Harag W' Marag (Chaos, Disorder) is a social drama that tells the story of lost love in a controversial setting; Zaki (Farrag), Mounir (Lehner) and Manal (Ayten Amer) are in their twenties, and living in a confined community where basic needs are met yet chaos and disorder brew. The two boys are in love with the same girl who finds herself the subject of a bet for a football match between them, the winner marries Manal. This story reflects a football and play-station youth and how they deal with their emotions in a community that is increasingly closed off and isolated.

About Coming Forth by Day (Starting December 15):

Coming Forth by Day tells the story of a poor family living in a shabby neighborhood on the outskirts of Cairo. The pillar of the family, a single 30-year-old woman (Donia Maher), finds it difficult to express her feelings and dreams, while she spends her time only taking care of her wheelchair-bound father (Ahmed Lotfy) and mother (Salma Al-Naggar) who works as a nurse.

Coming Forth by Day is directed and written by Hala Lotfy and produced by Hassala Films, in collaboration with NY Consultancy. The film also received a distribution grant in Germany from the Berlin International Film Festival's World Cinema Fund. The film was screened in five German cities, in addition to Austria and Switzerland through the Arsenal Institute for Cinema and Video Art. In April, 2014, Coming Forth by Day was released in theatres by MAD Solutions, who owns regional and international distribution rights in all platforms.

Coming Forth by Day landed in the 94th place on the Dubai International Film Festival's list of the 100 Most Important Arab Films. The film was the latest addition to the list which included the best Arab productions in the last 70 years.

Hala Lotfy's Coming Forth by Day was selected by World Cinema Fund (WCF) to launch its latest initiative
WCF on Demand. The initiative serves as a Video on Demand (VOD) platform, making WCF's films accessible worldwide. Set off on February 11th, 2015, with 10 films taking part at the service, Coming Forth by Day will be available for the service's users until 2017.

The film won several prizes at several international film festivals during 2012, including; FIPRESCI award for the Best Narrative Feature and the Best Director from the Arab World at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival within the New Horizons competition, the Bronze Tanit in the Official Competition of the Carthage Film Festival, the Golden Lion at the Oran Arab Film Festival within the official competition, and the Best African Film Award within the African Film Competition at the African Film Festival in Milan.

About Challat of Tunis (Starting December 22):
The film reaped six awards from international film festivals, including the Bayeur d'or Award at the International Francophone Film Festival of Namur in Belgium, the Best Documentary Award at the International Beirut Film Festival, the only Arab film at the San Sebastian Film Festival in 2014. The film was officially selected for participation in the Venice International Film Festival in 2013, and it was commercially released in Tunisia and France. Variety Magazine said about the film, "Mockumentaries generally have culturally specific elements that play best to local audiences, and Kaouther Ben Hania's hilarious and acerbic Challat of Tunis is a prime example".
