The Only Arab Film to Participate in This Year's Round

Director Mohammed Hammad's Withered Green Lands at Singapore International Film Festival

After several successful stops at international film festivals, Director Mohammed Hammad's Withered Green will take part in the 27th Singapore International Film Festival (23 November - 4 December) in the Cinema Today Section as the only Arab film to participate in the festival, this year.

The Cinema Today Section will screen 24 films from all over the world that highlight the different points of view from one country to another through cinema. Hammad commented on this diversity by saying, "I am happy that Withered Green will be screened in the same section as I, Daniel Blake by the great director Ken Loach, one of the most skilled filmmakers in the world." Daniel Blake is the Palm d'Or
winning film in the latest round of the Cannes International Film Festival.

Withered Green tells the story of young Iman, a conservative religious person, who takes people's opinions of her into account and shows uptight restriction to all the withering social traditions. However, a shocking discovery prompts her to do away with all these withered traditions that she once clung to.

Withered Green has competed within the Concorso Cineasti del Presente section at the 69th Locarno International Film Festival. After an impressive full-house three screenings, the film has pulled in a fourth exceptional screening on the audience's' demand. Withered Green participated in the Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur (FIFF) in Belgium within the Comptition 1e Oeuvre De Fiction (Competition of Debut Feature Film) and marked the first Egyptian film to participate at the festival since 1999.

Recently, Hammad took part in the 27th Stockholm International Film Festival (9 - 20 November) as a jury member for the Impact competition. His debut feature film Withered Green also participated in the festival within the Discovery section.

Written and directed by Mohammed Hammad, Withered Green is produced by Hammad, Kholoud Saad and Mohammed El Sharqawy in collaboration with producer Mohamed Hefzy (Film Clinic). MAD Solutions alongside Film Clinic-Indie Film Distribution (FCIFD) are handling the film distribution worldwide.

Mohammed Hammad is an Egyptian director with a number of short films in his repertoire. He wrote, produced, and directed the short film Central (2008). In 2010, he produced and directed the short film Pale Red, which took part in many international festivals, receiving several awards.
