Arab Cinema Center at the Berlinale for the 8th Consecutive Year


For the 8th year in a row, the Arab Cinema Center (ACC) will engage in a wide-range of activities at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) (Feb 10-20) accompanied by 10 of its partners that vary between film organizations and international film festivals. 
 
The partners accompanying the ACC to the Berlinale (in alphabetical order): Arab Radio and Television Network (ART) ( KSA), El Gouna Film Festival (Egypt), Gemini Africa (Egypt), Greener Screen (UAE), IEFTA (France), Lagoonie Film Production (Egypt), MAD Solutions (Egypt, UAE, Lisbon), Sudan Film Factory (Sudan), Sudan Independent Film Festival (Sudan), The Imaginarium Films (Jordan). 
 
On Friday, Feb.11, IEFTA organizes an interactive discussions titled “ Mix & Mingle: The Digital World in Africa” where a number of international film organizations will participate, including Marché du Film, Rotterdam Lab, Torino Film Lab, El Gouna Film Festival, Gemini Africa, Arab Cinema Center, among others. 
 
As part of the European Film Market in Berlin, Alaa Karkouti ( MAD Solutions & Arab Cinema Center) will moderate a panel discussion titled “ Decolonising Distribution / Contextualising Visibility” on February 16. The discussion will bring together Weije Lai (producer/curator, Singapore / Canada), Steven Markowitz (Producer, South Africa), Fiorella Moretti (World Sales LUXBOX, France / Peru), Benjamin Cölle (academic/expert for Audience Design and Story Development, Germany). 
 
During a virtual reception held by the Arab Cinema Center (ACC) at this year’s Berlinale, the ACC will grant the Arab Cinema Personality of the Year Award. The date of the reception and the awarded personality will be announced very soon. 
 
The Arab Cinema Center (ACC), founded in 2015 by MAD Solutions, is a non-profit organization incorporated in Amsterdam. The ACC also provides networking opportunities with representatives of companies and institutions specialized in co-production and international distribution, among others. The ACC's activities vary between film markets, stands, pavilions, networking sessions, one-on-one meetings bringing together Arab and foreign filmmakers, welcome parties, and meetings with international organizations and festivals. Also, the activities include the issuance of the Arab Cinema Magazine to be distributed at the leading international film festivals and markets.
 
Furthermore, newsletter subscription is now available on the ACC's website, allowing users to obtain digital copies of the Arab Cinema Magazine, as well as news on the ACC's activities, notifications of application dates for grants, festivals and offers from educational and training institutions, updates on Arab films participating at festivals, exclusive news on the Arab Cinema LAB, and highlights from the ACC's partners and their future projects.
 
The Arab Cinema Center has launched the Arab Cinema Directory in English language on its website, which is a comprehensive cinema directory that provides multiple tools in one place for the first time in order to enhance easy access to information on cinema to film makers inside and outside the Arab world. It also aims to facilitate the connection between the Arab film and Filmmakers and the International market. It also helps International Filmmakers to easily identify the Arab Cinema Productions.
