A Day for Women Participates in the Arabian Nights Programme at Dubai International Film Festival


Today, the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) has announced the news that director Kamla Abouzekri's and star Elham Shahin's film A Day for Women will take part in the Arabian Nights programme at the 13th edition of the festival that will be held from 7 to 14 December, marking the film's GCC premiere.

The film is set to open the 38th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) (15-24 November), and will compete in the International Competition.

A few days ago, Shahin Film released posters of the five male characters and the film's teaser poster for the Arab world, just a month after releasing its international teaser poster during the film's world premiere at the 60th British Film Institute's London Film Festival (BFI London Film Festival) within the Debate Strand section.

A Day for Women takes place in a shabby neighborhood in Egypt where a youth center decides to allocate one day on the swimming pool for women only. The film follows the consequences of this decision on the social, psychological and emotional life of the women living in that neighborhood.

A Day for Women brings together a cast and crew of outstanding women, as it is produced by Elham Shahin through her company Shahin Film, who also stars in the film, directed by Kamla Abouzekri, Written by Hanaa Attia, A Day for Women stars a number of magnificent old and young stars including; Elham Shahin, Mahmoud Hemida, Farouk Al Fishawy, Ahmad Al Fishawy, Nelly Karim, Eyad Nassar, Nahed El Sebai, Ahmed Dawood and Hala Sedqi. The film is directed by Kamla Abouzekri and produced by star Elham Shahin through her company Shahin Film and MAD Solutions is handling the distribution and marketing for the film.

The film marks Elham Shahin's third experience as a producer after Hazz West El Balad (2015) by director Salah Abu Seif and Fawzeya's Secret Recipe (2005) by director Magdy Ahmed Aly. With a repertoire of more than 120 various works, including films, plays and TV dramas, actress Elham Shahin has won many awards from international film festivals including; Best Actress award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival (Fawzeya's Secret Recipe) and the Horus Award at the Cairo National Festival for Egyptian Cinema (The Desire).

Director Kamla Abouzekri's filmography includes; One-Zero (2009), which competed at many international film festivals such as the Venice Film Festival and received more than 45 awards, Heads and Tails (2006), and An Al Eshq Wal Hawa (2006). As for TV dramas, Abouzekri directed Bent Esmaha Zaat (A Girl Called Zaat) (2013), and Segn El Nesaa (Women's Prison) (2014) that achieved the top most-watched TV dramas during Ramadan season.

DIFF is one of the most important film festivals in the Arab world. This year, DIFF will showcase over 120 features, shorts films and documentaries from around the world and will include several world premieres. Every year DIFF presents new and exciting cinema from the Arab world and beyond, introducing audiences to fresh new talent and original and distinctive filmmaking.
