A Day for Women Kicked Off its Premiere with the Attendance of Celebrities and Critics


Shahin Film held the premiere of the film A Day for Women by Kamla Abouzekri on Friday, December 16, at Dandy Mall Cinema with the attendance of the film's stars, public figures, and critics, while the film is being screened in Egyptian theaters.

Among the film cast and crew who attended the film's premiere, star and producer Elham Shahin, young actor Ahmed Dawood, together with writer Hanaa Atiyah. The premiere was also attended by other Arab stars like Esaad Younis, Fifi Abdou, Simone, Poussi, Mai Nour El Sherif, Shahira, Emy, Nihal Anbar, Loai Omran, Ola Roshdy, Takki, Rasha Mahdi, Amir Shahin, TV presenters Soheir Shalabi, Salma El Shamaa, Khaled Montaser, screenwriter Medhat El Adl, producers Mohamed El-Adl and Nahed Farid Shawki, along with director Emad El-Bahhat.

A Day for Women had its world premiere at the 60th BFI London Film Festival, run by the British Film Institute (BFI), within the Debate Strand section. Recently, the film competed in the Official Competition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), where its star Nahed El Sebai won the Best Actress Award for her role in the film. A Day for Women made its GCC premiere at the 13th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in its Arabian Nights programme.

A Day for Women takes place in a shabby neighborhood in Egypt where a youth center decides to allocate one day on the swimming pool for women only. The film follows the consequences of this decision on the social, psychological and emotional life of the women living in that neighborhood.

A Day for Women brings together a cast and crew of outstanding women, as it is produced by Elham Shahin through her company Shahin Film, who also stars in the film, directed by Kamla Abouzekri, written by Hanaa Atiyah, DOP Nancy Abdel Fattah, and Costume Designer Inas Shahin. The film stars Nelly Karim, Nahed El Sebai, Hala Sedqi, Ragaa Hussein, Shaimaa Seif, along with Mahmoud Hemida, Farouk Al Fishawy, Ahmad Al Fishawy, Eyad Nassar, and Ahmed Dawood. MAD Solutions is handling the film's marketing and promotion in the Arab world.

The film marks Elham Shahin's third experience as a producer after Hazz West El Balad (2015) by director Salah Abu Seif and Fawzeya's Secret Recipe (2005) by director Magdy Ahmed Aly. With a repertoire of more than 120 various works, including films, plays and TV dramas, actress Elham Shahin has won many awards from international film festivals including; Best Actress award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival (Fawzeya's Secret Recipe) and the Horus Award at the Cairo National Festival for Egyptian Cinema (The Desire).

Director Kamla Abouzekri's filmography includes; One-Zero (2009), which competed at many international film festivals such as the Venice Film Festival and received more than 45 awards, Heads and Tails (2006), and An Al Eshq Wal Hawa (2006). As for TV dramas, Abouzekri directed Bent Esmaha Zaat (A Girl Called Zaat) (2013), and Segn El Nesaa (Women's Prison) (2014) that achieved the top most-watched TV dramas during Ramadan season.
