5 Films Distributed by MAD Solutions Take Part in the Arab Film Festival Rotterdam


Five films from MAD Solutions' distribution list are set to take part in the Arab Film Festival Rotterdam (March 27-31). The films are: My Favorite Fabric by Gaya Jiji, The Tower by Mats Grorud, Weldi by Mohamed Ben Attia, The Borrowed Dress by Leen Alfaisal, and The Healer by Mohamed Zineddaine.
The festival aims to support Arab cinema and Arab filmmakers as well as contribute to bridging the cultural and artistic gap between Europe and the Arab world and developing the cinematic arts as a whole.

About My Favorite Fabric

My Favorite Fabric by Gaya Jiji landed its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival (Un Certain Regard Section). The film is produced by Gloria Films Production (Laurent Lavolé) and stars Manal Issa, Ula Tabari, and Souraya Baghdadi. MAD Solutions is handling the film's distribution in the Arab world.

The film follows the 25-year Nahla who finds herself torn between choosing to stay in her country and fight for freedom or accept the offer of an arranged marriage from a Syrian expatriate in the USA. To make things more complicated, a new man comes into her life changing everything!

About Weldi

Weldi made its world premiere at this year's edition of the Cannes Film Festival within its Directors' Fortnight section, and most recently, it competed in the Official Competition of the 2nd El Gouna Film Festival. Weldi follows Riadh, who is about to retire from his work as a forklift operator at the port of Tunis. The life he shares with his wife Nazli revolves around their only son Sami, who is preparing for his high school exams. The boy's repeated migraine attacks are a cause of much worry to his parents. But when he finally seems to be getting better, Sami suddenly disappears.

Directed and written by Mohamed Ben Attia, and co-produced by Dora Bouchoucha's Nomadis Images, Les Films du Fleuve and Tanit Films, Weldi stars Mohamed Dhrif, Mouna Mejri, Zakaria Ben Ayed, Imen Cherif, Taylan Mintas and Tarik Copti. The film is distributed by MAD Solutions in the Arab world.

About The Tower:

An animation feature film directed and written by Mats Grorud, The Tower features the voices of Romina Adl Kasravi, Mohamed Bakri, Najila Said, and Morad Hassan. The film is a French-Swedish-Norwegian co-production that is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

Wardi, an eleven-year-old Palestinian girl, lives with her whole family in the refugee camp where she was born. She learns about her family's history through stories told to her by three earlier generations of refugees.

The film took part in the Cairo International Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, London Palestine Film Festival, Palestine Cinema Days, Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, the Festival du Film Arabe de Fameck in France, and Busan International Film Festival.

About The Borrowed Dress

Written and directed by Leen Alfaisal, The Borrowed Dress is produced by Sarah Hassan and Alaa Alassad (Creative Media Solutions). The film stars Siham Abu Nabbout, Doaa Al Zoabi and Saad Alkuwatly. The film is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

Grandmother Susu (80 years old), her daughter Doaa (50 years old), and her grandchild Saad (16 years old) are forced to flee Syria after the beginning of the revolution to live in different scattered places, with the one thing left to share being their desire to reunite. The details of their personal stories and human experiences are microcosms of two stories: one of a population that has spread all over the world, and the other of a homeland that might have changed forever.
