3000 Nights Wins the Audience Award at Valladolid International Film Festival
Continuing its triumphant worldwide tour, Mai Masri's film 3000 Nights has been awarded the Meeting Point Audience Award at the 60th Valladolid International Film Festival in Spain which closed on October 31st. The audience rated the film 4.297 out of 5 and in an official statement, the jury commented that the prize was granted to 3000 Nights which, "received the warmest acclaim from the audience."
This award is following the wide acclaim since 3000 Nights' world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival and competing at Busan International Film Festival in South Korea. In BFI London Film Festival the film screened to a 'full-house' audience.
A Palestinian, French, Jordanian, UAE, Qatar and Lebanese co-production, 3000 Nights stars Maisa Abdelhadi and Nadera Omran. The film tells the story of a young Palestinian school teacher who is arrested on false accusations and incarcerated in an Israeli prison, where she gives birth to a baby boy. Through her struggle in prison and her relationship with the other prisoners, she fights to protect her son, survive and maintain hope.
Mai Masri is a Palestinian filmmaker. She studied film at UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University (USA) where she graduated with a BA degree. Holding an extensive repertoire of documentaries packed with humanistic passion, Masri's films have received over 60 awards from major international film festivals. Her filmography includes; Under the Rubble (1983), Wild Flowers: Women of South Lebanon (1986), War Generation - Beirut (1998), Children of Fire (1990), Suspended Dreams (1992), Children of Shatila (1998), A Woman for Her Time (1995), Beirut Diaries (2006), Frontiers of Dreams and Fears (2001) and 33 Days (2007.)
