Documentary Film Sunday Market: Tripoli to Take Part in the Sharjah Film Platform (SFP)
The short documentary Sunday Market: Tripoli will take part in the 2nd Sharjah Film Platform (December 14-21) hosted by the Sharjah Art Foundation. The film will be screened in the presence of its director Yahya Mourad on Thursday, December 19, at 4:00 PM at Al Hamra Cinema.

Sharjah Art Foundation’s film festival, Sharjah Film Platform (SFP), returns for its second edition that features over 50 short and feature-length narrative, documentary and experimental films that were selected through the SFP open call. The three short films awarded the foundation’s Short Film Production Grant will premiere on opening night. In addition to the films, the festival includes a public programme of talks and discussions that will bring together filmmakers, artists and audiences for a range of sessions on current issues in filmmaking and the film industry.

The Lebanese documentary film Sunday Market: Tripoli won the Golden Olive Award for Best Independent Film at the Notre Dame University-Louaize International Film Festival (NDUIFF) and took part in several international film festivals, including the Urban Films Festival in France, São Paulo International Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the Rencontres Internationales du Documentaire de Montréal, San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain and Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Beirut.

Between the Lebanese civil war and the Syrian occupation, some ex fighters find themselves trapped right in the middle! Searching for their freedom, they decide to head to the city of Tripoli for a new life. There, they settle in the flea market, the Sunday Market, which soon becomes more than just a market to them....it becomes the place where they find their freedom! Directed by Yahya Mourad, Sunday Market: Tripoli is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.

Residing in Tripoli, Lebanon, director and cinematographer Yahya Mourad, has participated so far in numerous international and regional festivals and workshops with his short film Belonging: Tripoli. After his graduation in 2015, he has worked on a number of personal and professional projects including short experimental documentaries, besides music video clips and commercial Ads. Yahya always creates the visual language that reflects people’s and places’ spirits in the scene. Despite the diversity of the projects, he always adds his own touch and originality to the project.
