Studio ZAT Offers Five-Month Intensive Professional Acting Workshop in Collaboration with 6 Coaches


For the first time in Egypt and the Arab world, Studio ZAT will offer a five-month intensive acting workshop starting Saturday, 3 December., in collaboration with 6 professional and specialized acting coaches in theater, film, and television: Shady Khalaf, Luke Lehner, Laurance Rudic, Ahmed Mokhtar, Mohamed Osman, and Florence Moutin. Many filmmakers will contribute to enriching the workshop as well.

For five consecutive months, the participant will start out in individual or group training and relaxation sessions to learn freedom of self-expression. At this stage, they will also acquire the skill of listening to the other and that acting does not entail pretending to be someone else, however, all the actor should do is be himself.

The workshop will also include vocal and movement training with specialized coaches in the field. In the end, the intensive program will include filming scenes and monologues as the participant's graduation project.

Split into two levels; the workshop will be offered for beginners on Mondays and Thursdays, while the advanced level will be offered on Saturdays and Tuesdays. The participation fee is EGP 4500.

Shady Khalaf is the founder of Studio ZAT. He is an actor and acting coach who studied acting at the London Film School. He performed in 25 feature films, series and plays. Shady Khalaf won the Best Actor Award at the Alexandria Film Festival for Qobolat Masrouka (2008).

Luke Lehner is an Acting Coach with over 15 years of theatrical experience and training. The first play he performed in took part in the fringe of the Cairo International Experimental Theatre Festival in 1999. He received his BA in Theatre from the American University in Cairo (AUC). In the summers of 2002 and 2004 he took part in Cairo to Camps, leading theatre workshops for the Palestinian refugee children living in Shatila. In 2012, he received his Masters of Fine Arts from the American Repertory Theater Institute at Harvard University and Moscow Art Theatre School. He has been conducting acting workshops in Cairo since the summer of 2014 and has also been giving private coaching to working actors. His training extends from London, Moscow, Boston and Los Angeles.

Laurance Rudic is a Scottish theatre artist, director and conductor who spent almost 45 years exploring creative tools in performance. For almost 25 years, he played in well over 100 productions as well as in leading theatre festivals. In London, he was a member of Ian McKellan's theatre group at the Royal National Theatre, in addition to the group of the two-times Oscars-winner, Glenda Jackson. Within his stay in Egypt, Rudic conducted many courses on acting, vocal training and movement at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He also taught somatic awareness at Karima Mansour's Cairo Contemporary Dance Centre, and created a workshop on spontaneity in performance for the Jesuit theatre school.

Ahmed Mokhtar is a theater and TV director and acting coach who trained at several national theaters, such as Al Taleya, Al Kawmy, Alghad w Alsamer. He also worked as a coach for the theater troupes in Cairo, Ain Shams, and Helwan Universities. Additionally, he worked as an acting coach at El Batreeq For Media Production's Actor's Studio and in El Warsha Theater Troupe. Mokhtar delivered many workshops in many cities around the country, such as Menia, Luxor, Sharqeya, Fayoum and Ismailia. As a theatrical director, his works include the play "Pharaonic Prayers", which participated at the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre. He has also directed more than five award-winning academic shows at multiple universities' festivals. Mokhtar is also considered as one of the most iconic dubbing directors across the Arab world, he is best known for the animated films: Monsters Inc. A Bug's Life and Finding Nemo.

Mohamed Osman is a voice coach, music consultant, conductor and maestro of Ayamna El Helwa band. He became conductor and trainer of the Faculty of Commerce music and singing band. He worked as a voice coach and music consultant on Soot Al Hayah program on Al Hayah channel and achieved great success through his work there.He also founded Ayamna El Helwa band, which aims to cover songs from Egyptian folkloric heritage as well as modern songs. They were also featured on two episodes of Sahibet Al-Saada with the great Isaad Younis, which were highly viewed.

Florence Moutin is a prominent French theatrical dancer and improvisation trainer. Through her training sessions, she aims to free the body and transform its moves into a creative language to promote self-confidence, creativity, and the ability to express one self. She studied literature, linguistics, Body-Mind Centring, contemporary dance, and Hatha yoga. She conducted numerous workshops and trained many individuals in contemporary dance, theater, movement, writing, and yoga. She has been living and working in Cairo for seven years now and has collaborated as a trainer and choreographer with the Cairo Contemporary Dance Center, Nahda Arts School - NAS, Centre Rézodanse (Alexandria), Lycée Français du Caire, and Save the Children NGO.

Studio ZAT aims to offer specialized workshops for amateur and professional actors to advance their craft. Participants are taught by Egyptian and foreign trainers within a suitable environment. The studio also offers an acting workshop, which includes special training concerning cameras, theatre, filmmaking for beginners, theatre direction, body dynamics, scriptwriting, as well as acting workshops for children to bring out their creativity and enhance their communication and storytelling skills.

Details of the Professional Acting Workshop at Studio ZAT:

The workshop begins on Saturday, 3 December for five consecutive months.
Participants will be divided into two groups:
Beginners on Monday and Thursday
Professionals on Saturday and Tuesday
