Stars in Shorts Programme Releases at Cinescape Cinema in Kuwait


MAD Solutions will release the Stars in Shorts programmeat Cinescape Cinema in Kuwait. The screenings of the Stars in Shorts will take place on Thursday, March 14. The programme is scheduled to screen at the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi in the UAE on April 7.

First-of-its-kind programme in the Arab world, the Stars in Shorts programme screens four Arab award-winning short films, namely; The Parrot by Darin J. Sallam and Amjad Al Rasheed, Submarine by Mounia Akl, Five Boys and A Wheel by Said Zagha, and Kindil el Bahr by Damien Ounouri. The films feature a number of outstanding stars, including Tunisian star Hend Sabry, Palestinian stars Ashraf Barhoum and Ali Soliman, Lebanese stars Julian Farhat and Yumna Marwan, and Algerian star Adila Bendimerad. These films received many awards at international film festivals.

About The Parrot:

Starring Tunisian actress Hend Sabry, Palestinian actor Ashraf Barhoum, Yasmine Ben Amara, Eyad Hourani, Firas Taybeh, Lara Sawalha, and Ahmad Al-Madani, The Parrot tells the story of a Mizrahi Jewish family, who emigrate from Morocco, trying to settle into their new life in Haifa, Palestine in 1948. The film is directed by Darin J. Sallam and Amjad Al Rasheed, and written by Al Rasheed, Sallam, and Rifqi Assaf. The film had its world premiere at the 13th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), within its Muhr Short competition, and won the Jury Award at the 7th Malmö Arab Film Festival in Sweden.

About Submarine:

Submarine stars Yumna Marwan, Julian Farhat, and Adel Chahine. Under the imminent threat of Lebanon's garbage crisis, Hala, a wild child inside of a woman is the only one to refuse evacuation, clinging to whatever remains of home. The film is directed by Mounia Akl.

Submarine world premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and screened at over 20 international film festivals. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the 2016 Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).

About Five Boys and A Wheel:

Five Boys and A Wheel features Ali Suliman, Nadira Omran and Haydar Kfoof. Based on American author Raymond Carver's short story 'Bicycles, Muscles, Cigarettes', the film is set in Jordan where a young father has to help his son out of a petty conflict with the neighbors. As the parents of each respective family are summoned to discuss the issue at hand, the discussions begin to quickly spin out of control, putting the values of the father to test. The film is directed by Said Zagha. Five Boys and A Wheel made its world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).

About Kindil el Bahr:

Kindil el Bahr stars Adila Bendimerad, Nabil Asli, Aziz Boukerouni, and Souad Sebki. Dealing with violence against women,the film follows, Nfissa, a young mother who during a beach day trip with her family is drowned by a group of young men while swimming offshore. Nobody seems to witness her disappearing. Anxiety and fear grow among the family, especially as, on the same beach, bathers mysteriously start to die. The film is directed by Damien Ounouri, who also co-wrote the film with its lead Adila Bendimerad. Kindil el Bahr made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and won more than eight awards at many international film festivals.
