Star Saba Mubarak Serves As Jury Member at the El Gouna Film Festival


During a press conference held, today, Tuesday, the organizers of the El Gouna Film Festival have announced the selection of Jordanian star Saba Mubarak to bea jury member of the Short Film Competition at the festival's second edition that will be held from September 20 to 28, 2018.

Commenting on her selection, Mubarak said, "It always gives me pure pleasure when I get selected as a jury member, and it becomes more exciting when it comes to short films, which are not widely-watched like feature length or documentary films, although most of them are superb films featuring great talents. I'm happy to be selected as a jury member of the Short Film Competition at the El Gouna Film Festival."

Even though it's a newly-established film festival, El Gouna Film Festival has become one of the most important Arab film festivals after its successful first edition. Many international films, which were selected at international film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin and Sundance, have been selected to compete in the festival's second edition. The festival's goal is to connect filmmakers from the region with their international counterparts in the spirit of cooperation and cultural exchange through the presentation of the finest recent cinematic productions.

Mubarak has wide experience as a jury member at international film festivals. She was selected as a jury member of the International Emmy Awards for two times, the last of which was last year, a jury member of the Feature and Short Competitions at the Malmo Arab Film Festival in Sweden, as well as a jury member at the 38th Cairo International Film Festival.

During 2018, Saba Mubarak won the Best Actress award at the Silk Road International Film Festival in Ireland for her role in the film The Guest: Aleppo-Istanbul, which also won the Best Feature Film award at the festival. Besides, the film wonthree other awards at international festivals: the Best Feature Film award and Best Editing award to Editor Ahmed Hafez in the National Feature Films Competition of the International Bosphorus Film Festival, and the Audience Award at the Antalya Film Festival. The Guest: Aleppo-Istanbul was screened at the Arab Women Film Festival in Sweden, LET'S CEE Film Festival in Vienna and the European Film Market (EFM), held as part of the Berlin International Film Festival.

In Ramadan 2018, Mubarak played the lead role in Tayea TV series by Amr Salama, alongside actor Amr Youssef. She played a girl from Upper Egypt for the first time receiving audience acclaim for her great performance. The TV series was widely discussed on Twitter after the episode of her murder.
