Saba Murbarak Brings to the Spotlight Stories about Refugees in "Obour"


Jordanian star Saba Mubarak announced that her production house Pan East Media will produce the new TV series Obour. Shedding light on stories about refugees, Obour will feature real life refugees starring along with Saba and a large number of Syrian and Jordanian stars.

Written by Thoraya Hemda and directed by Mohamed El Hashki, Obour's series of events are set against the backdrop of 2015 and follows the daily life of the young 12-year-old Laith who recently arrives to join a refugee camp as a loner. As the time goes by, Laith finds himself drawn closer to the lives of his fellow refugees and gradually becomes an indispensable member of their society.

Obour is a new TV series that raises awareness about the daily struggles of refugees by featuring real life stories of refugees who joined El Wasl Refugee Camp in search for a better life. These stories shed light on how they interact with workers and volunteers who come from different countries from across the world and carry a variety of cultural backgrounds. Furthermoer, Obour brings about stories from the daily life of activists who work in refugee camps from Jordan and the UAE along with international volunteers.

This is not the first time for Saba to star in works that raise awareness about refugees. She has previously starred in and produced The Guest: Aleppo-Istanbul by Turkish director AndaƧ Haznedaroğlu. Presented as her Pan East Media's debut co-production, Saba starred in the film as a Syrian refugee who embarks on a journey from Turkey to Germany to start a new life.

The Guest: Aleppo - Istanbul received five awards at seven international film festivals including: Antalya Film Festival in Turkey, Arab Film Festival in Korea, and Berlin International Film Festival, at its European Film Market (EFM). The film won Saba the Best Actress Award at the Silk Road International Film Festival (SRIFF) in Ireland.
