Mexican Film The Good Girls to Continue Screening at Zawya Cinema


Mexican film The Good Girls by director Alejandra Márquez Abella, will continue screening for the second week in a row at Zawya cinema where it will have five screenings during the following week. This comes after the film’s great success during the first week. It’s worth mentioning that The Good Girls has taken part in several international festivals garnering prestigious awards.

The film has garnered a number of prestigious awards, including Grand Prix for Best Film at Fribourg Film Festival, Audience Award at Macao International Film Festival and Best Latin American Film, Best Screenplay and Best Editing at Malaga Film Festival. Additionally it took part in a number of international film festivals, including Toronto International Film Festival, Roma International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, Morelia International Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, Stockholm International Film Festival and Hong-Kong Film Festival.

The always charming, perfect and spoiled Sofia, the queen bee of her group of friends, faces the unimaginable, her social decay. It’s 1982 and a big economic crisis is hitting Mexico. Sofia will have to maintain the appearances but her fall not only will be inevitable, it will also acknowledge what is lost when the money is gone. Directed by Alejandra Márquez Abella, who co-wrote it with Monika Revilla, The Good Girls stars Ilse Salas, Cassandra Cinagherotti and Paulina Gaitán. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution across the Arab world.

Alejandra Márquez Abella was born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico and raised in Mexico City. She studied filmmaking at Centre d’Estudis Cinematographics de Catalunya in Barcelona. Her short 5 Memories was exhibited in over 140 festivals around the world. Semana santa (2015), her first feature, premiered at Toronto International Film Festival and visited festivals such as South by Southwest and Karlovy Vary. The Good Girls (Las Niñas Bien) is her second feature.
