MAD Solutions' Films at the Jordanian Film Days in Algeria


MAD Solutions will be taking part in the 5th Jordanian Film Days in Algeria (24 - 26 February) with three Jordanian productions and co-productions from its list of clientele. The three MAD films are: Naji Abu Nowar's Oscar-nominated film for Best Foreign Language Feature Film Theeb, Mai Masri's 3000 Nights, and Yahya Alabdallah's documentary film The Council.

These three films will comprise the festival's three-day screening program. The festival is organized in collaboration with the Algerian Ministry of Culture and the Royal Film Commission Jordan- RFC.

To be held on Thursday, 25th of February, MAD Solutions' Head of Arabic Content Department, Mohammad Hussien, will be part of the panel discussion entitled "Film Distribution in the Arab World".

About 3000 Nights:
Written and directed by Mai Masri, 3000 Nights tells the story of a young Palestinian school teacher who gives birth to her son in an Israeli prison, where she fights to protect him, survive and maintain hope.

The film recently won the Audience Award at the Annonay International Festival of First Films in France and the Jury Award at the Women's International Film and Television Showcase in the US. It also won the Meeting Point Audience Award at the 60th Valladolid International Film Festival in Spain and had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film had its US premiere at Palm Springs International Film Festival in California and competed at Busan International Film Festival in South Korea with full-house screenings. The film had a theatrical release in Nablus, Palestine in January and during the premiere, director Mai Masri was awarded three honorary shields from An-Najah National University, The Civil Society of Nablus Governorate (CSNG) and Al Masri Family for her efforts in supporting the Palestinian cinema.

About The Council:
Director Yahya Alabdallah's 93-minute documentary film follows the journey of three young Palestinians running for the student council in a refugee school in Jordan, from announcing the election till the end of the academic year. The film won a Certificate of Appreciation at the Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, in addition to a Special Mention at the Dubai International Film Festival. Yahya Alabdallah is a seven-time award-winning director and he was also nominated for 15 awards. The Council was supported by the Final Cut workshop at the Venice International Film Festival.

About Theeb:
Theeb is Jordanian director/writer Naji Abu Nowar's first feature film which he co-scripted with Bassel Ghandour. Set in the Arabian Desert of 1916, the film follows Theeb, a young Bedouin boy, and his brother Hussein as they leave the safety of their tribe to venture on a treacherous journey at the dawn of the Great Revolt. If Theeb is to survive he must quickly learn about adulthood, trust and betrayal. Recently, Abu Nowar won the BAFTA award for BAFTA for Outstanding Debut by British Director and the film is also nominated for the Best Foreign-Language Film Award in the 88th Academy Awards. Theeb has been screened in 25 countries and received 19 international awards including Best Director Award at Orizzonti (New Horizons) Competition after the film's World Premiere at Venice Film Festival.
Most recently, the award-winning film had a commercial release in the US and garnered more than $136,000 in ticket sales within five weeks. Theeb was also released in 12 countries in the Arab world and Europe and is set to have a re-release in several Arab countries.
