The Only Arab Film in Competition

Central Market Official Selection at Valencia International Film Festival

After a high-profile presence at Cannes Film Festival last month, Bahraini short film Central Market by Saleh Nass is selected for the Short Films Official Section at Valencia International Film Festival, making it the only Arab film taking part in the official competition. The festival will take place from 19 to 26 June, 2015.

Central Market, which has a total runtime of ten minutes, is written and directed by Saleh Nass. It tells the story of a boy (Abdulla Hassan Ali) who works his afternoons at the local fruit and vegetable market carrying and delivering groceries. He's always searching for a quick buck to be made. An opportunity arises to make some 'serious cash' by trying to milk a small goat.

Central Market has had a solid festival schedule after premiering at the Montreal World Film Festival in August last year. It then went on to screen at Dubai International Film Festival, Calgary International Film Festival, and Tampere Film Festival among many other festivals and film events.

In 2012, Saleh Nass' film Lu'bba screened at more than 20 international film festivals, most notably Slamdance Film Festival. Nass has made a number of short films, including Also Traveling (2004), Phone Call (2005) and The Body (2006). He is currently working on his next feature film Grace Period with producer Paul Baboudjian.

Screening times of Central Market at the Valencia International Film Festival (GMT +2):
