Bassem Youssef Fails in Playing the Factory Boy and a Video for Yasmin Raeis Screens for the First time on TV

In his show's fixed segment where he hosts people with positive achievements in Egyptian society and art, Satirist Bassem Youssef hosted Factory Girl's makers in his successful show Elbernameg. The episode aired on Friday on MBC Masr channel witnessed the participation of prolific Director Mohamed Khan, the film star Yasmin Raeis, and Producer Mohamed Samir, and featured Bassem Youssef's failing acting audition in front of Mohamed Khan. The episode also included the screening of the video of Yasmin Raeis's audition that won her the role in the film for the first time on TV.

The segment started with a comedic twist as Bassem started acting to prove himself a good aspiring actor in front of Mohamed Khan; he played some scenes from films like Zawgat Ragol Mohem (A VIP's Wife), Ayyam El Sadat (The Days of Sadat) and El Harrif (The Professional), which made Khan announce that Bassem can never be an actor.

Khan talked about his relationship with late actress Soaad Hosny, aka Cinderella of the Arab screen, stressing on the fact that she is present inside the mind of every Egyptian and Arab girl, that's why he dedicates her songs played in the film to all of them. Khan referred to his friendship with the Cinderella saying that during the filming of Mawe'd Ala El Ashaa "A Dinner's Date", Khan had a different vision from that scripted in one of the scenes, yet Soaad suggested that both visions should be performed then they decide on it, which made Khan grow so angry and left to his room. The Cinderella then went to him and agreed on applying his vision on the scene.

Bassem asked Khan about the reason why he made 23 films about women achieving their goals in life, which Khan replied to saying that women are oppressed in our masculine society where only males put its laws and apply them; "that's why in Factory Girl I wanted to cheer for the hardworking girl that supports her family and longs for love and life, that girl exists in every Egyptian house," Khan added.

Factory Girl tells the story of Hiyam, a young factory worker, lives in a lower-middle-class neighborhood, along with her co-workers. She is clearly under the spell of Salah, the factory's new supervisor, who has expressed his admiration for her. She believes love can transcend the class differences between them. However, when a pregnancy test is discovered in the factory premises, her immediate family and close friends accuse her of sinning. Hiyam decides not to defend herself and pays an enormous price in a society that fails to accept independent women. Factory Girl examines the changes that take place in her life over the four seasons of the year. From falling in love to facing heartbreak, her life comes around full circle by the end of the year.

Commenting on the idea of the film, Khan said, "we asked Wessam Suleiman to go to a real clothes' factory to experience the atmosphere there and be inspired by the workers," then he added that he chose Yasmine Raeis
from about 200 girls auditioned for the film.

Starring Yasmin Raeis, Hany Adel, Salwa Kahttab, Salwa Mohamed Ali, in addition to a number of new aspiring talents, Factory Girl is the first feature production by Mohamed Samir's DayDream Art Production.

After playing a video showing her receiving the Best Actress Award in Dubai International Film Festival, Yasmin Raeis talked about one of the most difficult scenes she performed in the film as she had to dance while she was pregnant.

Also a video for Yasmine's audition that won her the role in the film was played, "I learned that Mohamed Khan was auditioning for his new film, so I decided to go without knowing any details, and I got surprised when I won the role," commented Yasmine.

Bassem Youssef asked Yasmine about her choice of her clothes, and she said that she dresses like that to avoid harassments, then Bassem made fun of her surname, which happens to mean "president", saying "Is Yasmine Raeis an elected or a candidate?

Then Bassem asked Khan to test him for playing Factory Boy saying "Discover my talent Mr. Khan."
Producer Mohamed Samir said, "It took us a whole year to make the film, we managed to get the support of the Ministry of Culture, which made it easier for us to get the support of other entities in foreign countries. DayDream Art Production's FactoryGirl was also produced by WIKA for Film Production and Distribution and Middlewest Films.

Samir expressed his contempt towards the trend to monopolize the film industry, considering it one of the many faces of corruption where the producer becomes the film's distributor and the owner of theatres in the same time.
Then Samir added that a producer is the person who tries to support the work that he believes in, and it is not necessary that he funds it, which made Khan comment on this saying that young filmmakers have to cooperate and help each other, and that was obvious in Factory Girl's experience. By the end of the show, Factory Girl's official song by Youssra El Hawary was screened.

Factory Girl was released last Wednesday in Egyptian theatres by MAD Solutions, the company serving as the film's distributor regionally and globally and marketing consultant. It was also revealed that the film will screen in the UAE on March 27th, 2014, as well as in numerous Arab countries, the list of which will be revealed soon.
MAD Solutions has announced that Al Youm7 is Factory Girl's media sponsor and ElCinema.com website will serve as the online sponsor of the film.
