Ahmed Malek Stars in Montreal Girls by Canadian Director Patricia Chica

Actor Ahmed Malek has signed for his first international film, which is Montreal Girls by Canadian director Patricia Chica, where he'll play the role of Basel, an Egyptian student who travels to Montreal on a medical school scholarship. He dreams of becoming a poet until he meets three girls who shatter his perceptions and reveal his true destiny.

Montreal Girls is Chica's debut feature after more than 20 well-received shorts, winning 25 awards and 5 nominations from international festivals. "I went on a year-long quest searching for the right actor to play Basil. Ahmed Malek is perfect for this role," said Chica to Screen Daily Magazine.

Recently, Malek finished shooting his scenes for the new films Gunshot by Karim El Shenawy and Al Deif (The Guest), directed by Hadi El Bagoury and written by Ibrahim Eissa, which was announced at the 14th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF). Gunshot and The Guest are both produced by iProductions.

During the 2017 edition of DIFF, Screen International selected Malek among the five promising Arab stars in the Stars of Tomorrow programme (Arab Stars of Tomorrow).

Sheikh Jackson, which features Malek, has been selected as Egypt's official submission to the 2018 Academy Awards for Best Foreign-Language Film. Malek was recently chosen by the board of the Shnit Worldwide Short film festival as a jury member of the Realtime Competition.
