14 Nominations for AFD Films in the Oscars Race


The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' revealed its final list of film nominations for the 88th Academy Awards®. It was revealed that five films distributed in Egyptian cinemas by Allied For Distribution (AFD) were announced to receive 14 nominations in the Oscars' different categories. The films are; Star Wars: The Force Awakens (5 nominations), The Hateful Eight (3 nominations), Sicario (3 nominations), the animation film Inside Out (2 nominations) and Spectre (1 nomination).

John Williams is nominated for the Best Original Score award for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The film is also nominated for the Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects awards.

Writer and Director Quentin Tarantino's western film; The Hateful Eight received three nominations namely; Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Jason Leigh, Best Cinematography for Robert Richardson and Best Original Score for composer Ennio Morricone.

The Oscars® also honored Sicario with three nominations; Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins, Best Original Score for Jóhann Jóhannsson in addition to the Best Sound Editing for Alan Robert Murray.

Pixar's most important animation film within the last years, Inside Out, received two nominations; Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay.

Both Jimmy Napes and Sam Smith received a nomination for the Best Original Song award for Spectre's song 'Writing's On The Wall'.

In 2015, AFD released Spectre, Inside Out and Sicario in Egyptian theatres in addition to The Hateful Eight and Star Wars: The Force Awakens which are now released in theatres. AFD is the distributer for Walt Disney, Sony Pictures and Colombia Pictures films in Egypt.
